Hi everyone!
I'm a student, currently living in South West France with a menagerie of animals.
Shared with the rest of my family, I have a Newfoundland dog, three horses, four cats, twelve chickens, thirteen llamas and two tanks of fish.
Horses are my passion and I regularly compete with all three, Vigo, Sana and Hermes. I must admit, I know far more about them than I do about cats!
As for the kitties...
My first cats were three feral adolescents someone passed off to us about eight years ago to deal with the mouse problem on our farm. Sadly, two of the three turned out to be very malformed internally and died after just a year and a half, the third one just vanishing once her brothers were no longer around.
Realising that feral cats were unlikely to be what we wanted out of a pet cat, we adopted two adult (neutered) males from one of the local rescue centres. Oliver and Monkey. Though it took Monkey a good few years to open up to us, both made themselves at home outside with access to the conservatory for food, water and shelter.
After that, we decided we wanted something a little different. In came a rehomed Norwegian Forest cat (Skogkatt). She lives indoors so as not to end up in trouble with our neighbours dogs (the two other cats are careful to avoid them but she is far less ready to back down to other animals). Whilst not the most affectionate of pets, she seems to be very chilled out with the current situation.

The newest member of the family (and the reason for deciding I would like to be part of this wonderful seeming forum) is little Rocket.
Just a few weeks ago, this tiny ball of fluffy shot out of the undergrowth in a park near where I go to school and literally jumped into my arms. The poor tiny thing was underweight and dehydrated, having obviously been abandoned. We believe he is related to three day-old kittens my head teacher found by the public bins about a year ago.
Nobody in the area turned out to be his owner and so (in the conscience that he was too young to survive out with nobody to feed him) we took him home.
Our local vet estimated his age at about 5 weeks, booked him in for his vaccines and gave him a clean bill of health.
In all honesty, I know nothing about kittens and was never intending to get one, but there is no way we could rehome this little guy!
I'm imagining I'll be posting a large amount of questions about raising him the right way!

Ok, pictures then! (Sorry for the heavy post)

SkogKatt - admittedly a few years ago and she has matured since then, but her attitude is much the same towards our possessions!

Monkey, one of our two older rescues, it has taken him quite a while to settle into his new life with us, which leads us to believe things weren't great before he was abandoned on the rescue society. Oliver, the other adult rescue, avoids cameras for some reason! (He is, however, a vaguely siamese-esque black cat who loves attention)

Little Rocket, the newest boy. We have no idea of his age or background but he seems happy enough to live here (and be fed at his every mewl)

Now onto our other animals...

Vigo, one of the three horses. He can be a bit of a bruiser but underneath there's a real softie who loves a good headrub!

Sana, second of the three boys. He's an ex endurance horse who now does dressage. Whilst not the smartest of souls, he's an excellent teacher and really knows his job.

Hermes, the third horse and my personal favourite of all the animals (Shh, I know we're not meant to pick or favourites but he is clearly the most talented child in the family.) He is an eight year old warmblood gelding, currently starting his career in dressage and jumping.

Bear, loyal Newfoundland watchdog and official cake-tester, pictured here with my father.

Dolly, one of the llamas back when we had a really good snowday.

And finally, here is a mess of llamas, all cuddling in together against the muddy snow!

Your animals are all beautiful!  Welcome!!!

I have a soft spot for Norwegians...we lost ours not too long ago. :(

Monkey is a handsome boy too!  And the horses--wow!  All I ever see around here is mostly Quarter Horses so it's lovely to see some European-types!

When one owns a kitten or cat I think they need one toy to play with

I went to a wood store and bought a long round narrow piece of smooth wood

sort of what resembles a curtain rod...and I drilled a tiny hole in the end

the wood round slender pole is 5 foot long

I then threaded slender rope through it and left that 6 foot long and tied a cat toy bird with catnip

inside an I sit in the chair and play with the cats..They love it and I do because I do not have to stretch

across the floor...or sit on the floor...

I also use liquid cat nip spray..bought at Petsmart of pet store...to spray on the toy and their scratch board...

For flea prevention I use no toxic chemicals..I order Pet Guard wafers off Amazon...for dogs or cats

and they have worked for over 3 years on my cats..they consume one wafer broken in bits before breakfast

one wafer per 10 lbs of body weight ...cats or dogs..

For food I try to buy no corn in the dry food  , and some wet canned food only a small amount once a day

I am adding a seaweed extract I buy on line that is suppose to help keep tartar off their teeth and I add

that daily once to the wet food only..this is called Pro Den Plaque off...

Fresh water...

and lots of rubs

and teach them a few  words...from the time they are a kitten..

I keep the vocabulary to Out/outside ... Come on , Hungry, I love you, Good boy.. well just a few

words...

I love your  Little Rocket tabby cat!

I have  had all  short haired grey tabbies as Little Rocket

here are some of my cats, Leo was bitten by a snake and passed

away last month..but I have Bro and Peebo ...

Love your animals..and I would take Little Rocket

for my own LOL...glad he is in France and not

in Alabama USA near me...
