This is my first ever pet fountain, so I wanted to be sure..

Yesterday I purchased and set up the drinkwell original pet fountain for my two cats, Boots and Socks. Boots has been sick, and seems to be going toward running water, so it looked like a good time to introduce them to a fountain.

Boots loves it. He drank a lot of water and dipped his paws in it throughout the evening and night. Socks has checked it out and is getting used to the idea.

My question: Is it normal for bubbles to accumulate on the water's surface? Does it have to do with the aeration and flow of the water? I noticed there were a couple of groups of bubbles on the water's surface this morning, and just wanted to be sure. I removed them before getting ready to work, and they came back before I headed out.

Any kind of tip or insight is helpful! As always, thank you!

It's been a while since we had our fountain up, but I think there were normal looking bubbles from the aeration. I don't recall groups of bubbles like that though. Sounds like foam from detergent perhaps? Did you rinse it really well before settling it up?

I took it apart and rinsed it before setting it up. This evening, I'll probably unplug it and re-rinse just to be safe - since I'm now at work and work all day. I'll try to take a picture of what I mean and post it too, just so I'm not getting lost in translation. I read about foam, but no one really had pictures for me to compare it to.

I know that Boots sat and drank around it for a good bit of the night though. He checked it out this morning, but I have a feeling he was just full after that and eating.

Now that I'm thinking about it, it reminded me or carbonation in appearance. And with a charcoal filter, that makes sense. Especially if it's been sitting in a box on a shelf for awhile. I'll rinse it out again tonight and maybe pick up a few extra filters to have on hand.
