That sounds good. I'll pick up a couple and do that. It will be tomorrow because I have to work tonight but what's one more day, LOL
You can do the same with a face cloth but they are harder and don't pick up any oils or grease so well - good for an urgent clean up though.   It's a nice way of washing because it's like a warm snuggle rather than a scary dunk in a bath - it's similar to the idea of towel bathing people who are very sick or disabled where you can wrap them in warm, wrung out wet towels and then again in warm dry ones.

Update on Xander....

He is actually a she...go figure. That's what I get for not checking her myself. I just went with what my DD said. The reason it took me so long is because I have tried not to get involved in handling HER so my DD could take on most of the responsibility.

Anyway, I found out when my other DD picked her up and I turned around just in time to see her little bottom right in front of my face...
That's when I realized HE was actually a SHE. We are still keeping the name Xander because, well we just like it, LOL

We have been giving her the meds and her eyes have cleared up but her breathing is still sort of gravely (not as bad, but still a little) so I will be taking her to the vet tomorrow. I hope it will all be ok.

She is playing, eating and using the litter box, so I'm wondering if it may be something with the litter. The store didn't have my usual and the litter I got has quite a bit of dust so I will be changing it and getting my usual which is 99% dust free. I had one cat that had an allergy to any littler that was dusty so she may have that too.

Thanks for the update. Its good to hear that little girl
Xander is doing so much better.
that the dusty litter is the cause of her remaining wheeziness.

I'm relieved Xander is looking and sounding better, but it is good you are going along to the vets to check out that little gravelly tone.  May be just a little more antibiotic needed, or as you say it could be the litter dust irritating the lungs.

LoL, so he is a she.
Just as well you found out reasonably quickly I guess.
I'm sure young Xander(ina) is happy it didn't take anyone too long examining her little butt to find this out, and it is always good to know before any further vet trips or plans for 'neutering'.   Fingers crossed the vet is happy about everything when you take her along tomorrow, and her gravelly breathing isn't anything serious now.

Thanks. It's been 7 days yesterday on her meds so I wasn't sure if I should keep her on it or just let the vet decide, but went ahead and gave her a dose this morning since she still sounded stuffed up. I will be taking her to the vet this afternoon after I get off work.

I am planning on having her spayed in a couple months.

Update on Xander, my daughter has informed me she is spelling it with a Z so now it's Zander. LOL whatever!!!!!

Anyway, I didn't make it to the vet last Thursday like I had planned but did make it this morning. She has a severe sinus infection, she actually looks like a koala because her nose is swollen. He gave her an anti-inflammatory shot and sent her home with some more antibiotics to be taken 10 to 14 days. If she isn't any better after 2 weeks she will be going back. I didn't get the weight on her but I know she needs to gain some more. I will call tomorrow and get her weight. It's hard on her to eat because she don't want anyone or anything touching her nose so I will be getting her some more goats milk or KMR and we are going to let her drink that along with a little wet food, feeding her just a little at a time, so she can keep her strength up.

I will update more soon.

Aww, the poor kitty, she must feel miserable with that infection.  Good idea to suppliment her feeding.  It is important she keeps her weight up, and to be strong to fight this infection.

Lots of litte hugs for her.

She was feeling much better this morning. Her nose had gone down a little and she ate some.

Question?????

When we gave her the medicine from the vet last night, she started foaming at the mouth BAD. We didn't try to give her anymore but did give her the one I had been for her URI. I don't know what the name of it is but will get it soon. I have a call into her vet to see what I need to do. This scared me and my DD to death. Has anyone else had their cat to do this with any medicine??

I had a cat foam at the mouth once.  I can't remember what medicine it was but it was in a syringe and I was supposed to give him the liquid in his mouth.  His mouth got all foamy and he was not happy.  I freaked out and got a different type of medicine.  He was fine though afterwards.  I don't know if it was an allergic reaction or if it was just a reacation to the bad taste.

It's possible it happened because of a stubborn determination not to swallow! I've known that happen a couple of times - even had a horse do it with a wormer!

Given how sick she's been, you're definitely wise to check it out before proceeding though. :cross: for stubbornness ;)

@Columbine  I know how horses do. I had one that would foam every time he got wormed.

Anyway, I talked to the vet and he said that it was normal for foaming to occur so I'm not so stressed. I just told DD to make sure she followed her around with a washcloth to clean up the mess after her, LOL.

I swear that even hard to medicate cats are easier to deal with than determined, stubborn horses!

Great that the foaming is nothing to worry about. I can imagine how scary it would have been though. You might want to confine Zander to the bathroom during and after meds to make cleanup easier. Its amazing just how far that foam can go

Just seen the post asking about foaming at the mouth after being given meds.  Oh yes, I've seen it....  Good for you getting it checked out.   I was in no doubt with Mouse - he was a spectacularly hammy actor and left me in no doubt that he did not like the powdered L Lysine I gave him.   Honestly, you'd think I'd tried to poison him or something the way that froth came out of his mouth - actually he might even have managed to make it look like it was coming out of his nose as well.  Not to mention the weird noise he made.

It worked though, I didn't attempt to give him any more L Lysine tablets or powder (he gets gel which he licks off my finger now, and it's cheeper).

I figure if a cat hates something that much and it's medication they need more than once - if the scene gets worse each time you approach it's worth asking the vet if there is any alternative they can give. It can be so traumatic and damaging for the relationship to try and persevere.   See how things go over the next couple of days.

It is definitely a fight everytime she is given her medicine. She has to be wrapped in a towel and pressed to your chest just to keep her head still long enough to get it in her mouth.  Then she starts foaming, spitting and sputtering, LOL it's pitiful but still funny with the look on her face.

Awww, the poor baby.  I can just imagine that look too.  I hope she gets lots of treats afterward.

When Robin was about Zander's age, I discovered that the back of my sofa (open to the living room) was the perfect height for giving him medicines. I could lean in, snuggle him down and pretty much get the job done much faster than wrapping him in a towel. No getting scratched and no struggling to lean over. Oh, and the ottoman is my "treat" spot.

That is a great idea. I'll have to try that. Thanks.

@MServant  yes she gets LOTS of love afterward.

@Columbine  Thanks. I will keep everyone posted.

It's been a few days and I can't really tell much difference. If she isn't any better by Monday I'm taking her back to the vet.

Update on Zander...

She has been on the medicine for a week now and still isn't any better. I called her vet this morning and we will be taking her in for an antibiotic injection this afternoon. I sure hope that will work. If not we will be making another trip back next week. I can give the injection at home if he will send one home with us but I'm not sure if he will agree with that. Anyway, the good news is she's eating good and using the litter box and is active. She just has a swollen nose from the sinus infection. Poor baby.
