Thank you for the great advice, MagiksGirl!! There's a Sally's near me and another store like it. I'm SURE I can find those items there!!

As for cutting my own hair, nope. It's short. Actually got such a bad cut at the last place I went to that I received EIGHT coupons for free service. It's been 6 weeks and it's taken this long to get my "bangs" to within 1/2 inch of my eyebrows. I was waiting til then to color it. My sister cried after the cut (she paid for it) and stared at me like I was the boogy man the whole weekend she visited. Lol!! Can't wait to color it now. I will be using the manager of the same chain salon but 10 miles away from where I got it cut. My hair went from 1/4 inch on the right side of my "side swept" bangs, peaked in the middle, then got short again, like a reverse wave. [emoji]128534[/emoji]

Wonder who else has a salon horror story to tell?

That sounds like a terrible haircut!

I don't have one about myself, but when I was in high school one of my friends let his girlfriend cut his hair. The haircut took her three hours since she kept trying to even it and in the end he looked ridiculous. He had to go get a real haircut just to fix it and it still looked bad.

The summer I cleaned out my house in Maryland to sell it was soooooo hot and humid I cut my hair short.  It was cute but I was still hot so went back.  OMG  I don't think I had a hair an inch long anywhere on my head!  I was cooler but it was such an awful haircut.  It took 3 years to grow back in enough to get it cut again.

I've not ever been in one of theses babbling contests. it does look very interesting. As for me, no haircut horror stories. I only every so often trim the ends, just to keep it healthy. Its easier for me to just tie up or braid.

Yes! Sally's should have those!

Hahaha. That's horrible! At least you got some coupons for their horrible work! I have 2 / 3 horrible salon stories. The 3rd time I visited I got the blue hair a lot darker than expected but it wasn't a disaster, so I'll consider it "not horrible".

My first hair cut was around 10 years ago (my mom liked for my hair to be long so she upkept it until I reached high school and she didn't have time) I had my hair longer than waist length. That time I didn't know what to expect. I asked her for a cut 2-3 inches below my shoulders. I tilted my head back and she cut away.  When I straightened my head it was about shoulder length!
It was horrible! Turns out it was a student

My 2nd experience with hair salons was about 2 years later, when I went to get highlights, this time it wasn't a student but it seems she didn't quite understand what "highlights" were so she gave me streaks! The worst and more horrible part is that she wasn't careful and the bleach ran under the cap, so I ended up looking like Pepe Le Pew!
That's when a nice girl at school saw my tragedy of a hair and offered to fix it, she recommended I go completely blonde and then I can darken as much as I want. I ended up being blonde for 9 years after that!
She's also the one that taught me to cut my hair and dye it on my own.

I have a kind of horror story, but it wasn't the salon's fault. A friend of mine got hold of some salon strength bleach. I asked her to bleach my hair for me (after being black, blue black, purple, purple black, black and red, red...you get the idea, I fancied going white-blonde). BIG mistake :lol3: She decided to apply it like shampoo, rubbing it into my scalp in the process :jaw: I think I lasted 5mins before it started burning. Washed it off straight away (said friend had to go out at that point). The top half of my hair was orange, and the bottom half was yellow! I decided it might look better if I cut it shorter so it was at least only one colour. Just made it worse. Stuffed a hat on and ran to the nearest salon. Took my hat off, and the whole place burst out laughing :anon: They did the best they could, but I was so glad when it grew out a bit and it was safe to re colour.

Oh, wow, that sounds horrible. Especially the scalp burning.

Oh god! That sounds like what usually happens when you bleach someone's hair without doing the proper steps: it can burn!

I don't know if they explained, but you most likely got the orange top because of the bleach reacting to the warmth from your head / scalp and it having been less processed and the bottom half yellow because it had had more processing than the top (all those colors!
) since the top/roots of the hair shaft are "newer" hair. It could also have been the order she applied it: bottom half first, top half later.

I'm happy it worked out for you in the end

Yep, the hairdresser did explain it. The orange was also to do with the number of red based colours that I'd previously used. I was very lucky - because I'd washed the bleach off the moment it felt wrong I avoided any scalp damage. My hair just needed a break from processing and some intensive conditioners for a while.

NewYork1303 NewYork1303 They couldn't fix the colour really -but they at least gave me a decent cut and some conditioning. There might have been a colour correction treatment too...it was 12 years ago - I can't remember exactly.

Edit#2 I've just remembered - it was orange bottom and yellow top. That's makes sooo much more sense with my explanation :lol3:

Yikes! I knew some people in high school that killed their hair dying it way too much. I died my hair in streaks in high school. I always did it with a home kit and it usually ended up okay.

@NewYork1303   Well the toilet paper is the least of his worries!  He is arriving on the 15th but the apartment mgmt, will not let him move in until the 20th!  They even asked if they would be able to move in early before sighing papers.  He is not that worried.   Hasn't realized that most of the hotels will be filled with parents of kids moving in. LOL

@Handsome Kitty When we moved in at my college, all of the hotels around campus were extremely full! I recommend VRBO (vacation rentals by owner). Find somewhere to rent just for a few days. It is usually cheaper than a hotel and more comfortable.

    Babbling!    I lurv babbling!
One of my top skills according to my brothers (who regularly accuse me and our mom of talking for hours about absolutly nothing).
I seem to remember being quite addicted to TCS for the duration of the last babble contest which could be bad news for me as I wasn't at work then...  could be I'm not at work by a week on Thursday.

On hairdressers, I have a great situation:  my regular hairdresser loves cats.  No 'small talk' there.
Just all about fur family.   I love having my hair cut too so just as well the chat is good.  My hair is rubbish (fine and thin) so most of the time it's really short, and when I have enough money or get it as a present I'll get colour done.  And being me, I don't see the point in spending a small fortune on something and no one knowing you've had it done so the less natural the better.
Not so sure about the green but I do like the blue @MagiksGirl.  I had a similar colour through black a few years back and that looked really nice (I thought).   Been bright orange, rusty reds, black, blue black, scarlet red, and black with red streak.  Oh, and a rather vibrant orangy pink that got quite a lot of comments (mostly accompanied with laughter).   The hair horror comes with the black and red phase -  I was going on a very sensible holiday with family and went to get my hair done a couple of days before.  I thought the colours looked a bit odd and don't know why I never said anything, anyhow, the hairdresser I went to at the time put the colours on the wrong way round and I had a black streak in the front and the rest was scarlet red....
By the time I realized and then got their attention it was a bit late to change it and I decided to go with the flow.  Had a good laugh and walked out of the hairdressers with a large bag full of hair product goodies. One thing good about hair is it grows and you get it cut off, and when it's short that doesn't take too long.

So I did this to my husband once. I had bought clippers, etc and thought I could cut his hair. I actually used eyebrow pencil to fill in some bald spots. :lol3: That was the last time I cut it. :lol3:

Ahhh! Yes! It makes more sense about the dyes now. I have been very diligent about scalp damage and bleach. I have heard the horror stories like scalp damage and even one of my friends even experienced chunks of her hair falling of due to over dyeing it red, blonde, black, red, blonde, brunette, blonde, she had a different color about every week or so

I let my hair rest for a very long time between colorings and even more between bleaching. I dye my hair about every 3-4 months and used to bleach only my roots every 6-8 months in between. Right now I'm at about the 4 month mark on the all over color and almost a 8 months since I used any bleach.

@MServant

That's quite the color list!
it sounds like was a good color scheme and you got to try out and got free goodies!! It seems long hair just likes me, I can't seem to keep it short for long so I also run with the flow! I, sadly and luckily have what people would call a nine-to-five job in an office, very serious stuff, so I can't quite go prancing around with blue and green hair... oh, but just they wait for End of the year holidays... it'll be a very colorful end of the year!

Do you continue to color hair bright colors?

@Docs Mom   That is so true, about how you feel if your hair looks bad.   I wonder if hairdressers know what powerful and important people they are?

I used to have a sensible management job but managed to get away with the daft hair colours some how....
I'm not so sure I'd get away with them in the shop I work in these days, but I don't have the money to colour it so much now so there's less risk.  If I do get it coloured I tend to opt for something like a rusty coper shade that grows out nicely with my natural colouring - which these days is dark brown with grey.  I tend to suit quite bold colours so the daft hair colours often suit me pretty well.  Oh, I forgot but I've had a few purple, aubergine type shades with deep rich brown as well.  I actually stopped going to one hair salon because, while the woman who did my hair was great and would colour how I liked it, she would get told off by the salon manager and their colourist because what I wanted didn't fit with the salon's preferred image!  Well I used to spend a lot of money in there and they lost all my custom so more fool them.

@AbbysMom
So bad you had to fill in the bald patches with eyebrow pencil?

And you're still married?   I'm impressed.
I hope you never attempt a kitty lion cut on any of your cats!

@MServant  It's really sad you had to stop going there. Was there a chance she took outside jobs or made house calls? Where I went everyone was taken by surprise by my color choice: blue. So much so, that hey had to send the assistant to go buy the blue dye since they didn't have it on hand. They pride themselves on you going out of their salon looking like a celebrity so they tried their best and succeeded with flying colors (pun intended
), although since they weren't used to dying hair that color they gave me plain old "blue"
instead of "turquoise" or "aqua" like I wanted it, but in the end the color was so amazing and rich I didn't mind at all, though next time I will see if I can bring my own dye. The price included bleaching, coloring, treatment, cut, dry and style, so my hair did look great!
After that I found out I didn't like sensible or natural colors, but hey, gotta pay the bills and without a job I wouldn't have been able to keep the Momma Grin's kittens!
Just gotta hold on until end of the year vacation to have that colorful hair again and my auburn hair in the meantime ties me over
