Hi, I'm back.

Congratulations @MagiksGirl  You were post 1500, is that right?

I went to bed, got up again, spent the day in town at my Japanese class and now it's 6 pm.

I really like all the shawls and jewellery you guys make. Love the costumes too. I don't really make stuff, I more kind of "build" if you know what I mean. I like working with wood and clay. I used to do a lot of pottery but these days I'm more likely to build things out of wood for my cats. I guess that's what comes of being surrounded by trees.

@Losna  @Raksha  those costumes are amazing. Those kind of clothes only look good on girls with powerful, man crushing thighs, so please don't be self conscious about the way you look.

You guys must love Halloween. It's my favourite time of year.

Last year I went as The Black Bride.

@Norachan Oh, I'm not self conscious at all. I'd totally walk around naked in the summer if it weren't illegal, and I've done nude modeling for a few photographers. My husband calls me a damn nudist.
To be honest I don't really understand body shame. I mean, I grasp that people are often self conscious about the way they look, but I really don't understand why. I often find myself wishing that there was a way to magically change body shame into behavior shame - because acting like an obnoxious prat is far more worthy of shame than the shape of a thigh or waist.

What prevents me from dressing up is sucking at costuming, and an unwillingness to spend the $$$$$$ to hire someone else to make me one. I'd rather drop my money into cutting edge computer parts and video games. Although I am now absurdly tempted to try  making a Zatanna costume with a crochet thread and see what happens. I think it would look a bit silly though. Maybe next time Joanne's has a super sale I'll pick up a bunch of thread and see what happens.

@Columbine I do most of my crocheting while waiting. Doctor's offices, at the DMV, etc. That second shawl I pictured was largely done at the hospital when we were visiting my husband's grandmother after her accident.

@Mani Yeah, I don't find ravelry very helpful either, honestly. But I wanted to try to help you out since I know what 'hmm i'd like a new pattern to try' feels like!! Oh, maybe if you try this site!!! It is pretty spiffy to go through even if you don't find a pattern. http://www.antiquepatternlibrary.org/

IT's worth a look for any type of crafter, not just knitting or crochet.

@segelkatt You watch movies, listen to lectures and panels, roleplay, meet people with interests, buy things, there's tons to do at cons. I love them.

@Mani I often spend hours just looking at the stuff there, it really is amazing. WHen I first stumbled across it, I spammed links to it everywhere.
It's fascinating not only from a crafty perspective, but a historical one as well.

wow you guys, are goint AT it! I couldn't read 200 posts! Only some of them

As far as Halloween is concerned, we don't Halloween in the same sense you do. We call it the Carnaval. And the period in which it takes place is called "Apokria".

Anyway, I used to work in a nightclub as PR.. I came up with the idea of having a 50-50 theme.. Which was like half something - half something else. Not necessarily opposites..

So a guy came in and he had his upper half dressed as a pirate, the lower half as a prostitude.. it was HILLARIOUS..

While, I was the one who came up with the idea, I didn't have the time to think my costume through. So it was at the last minute. And I dressed as a boxer-turkey.. Feathers all over my body+legs and boxing gloves on my hands.. Needless to say, I made it hard for me to have a proper drink... The sad thing is that someone else took pictures of me, but I never got any
so, I don't have any photos to show you

Your 50-50 theme sounds amazing.  I've never heard of that as a theme but think it's wonderful.  That must have been the strangest sight ever.

I love hearing about Greece.  I have always loved it since I was little and it makes me so sad, the situation over there.

But today it is even worse. On top of everything, we have to fight 2 big fires due to arsonists. One in Athens (mount Imittos) and another one in Mani, Lakonia. In Mani, Lakonia a Swiss tourist already lost his life due to heart problems, triggered by the smoke
As a Greek I feel so ashamed that a Swiss tourist honoured my country by visiting it, and some moron (sorry for my language) became the reason for that man to lose his life.. It's terrible..

I would have voted the same way.  I think it's just shameful, to put it mildly what's being done to Greece.  You have a lot of sympathizers.  I love the photo of Grizzly.  He's like "Mom, what's this?"
And the whole concept of putting  your position on signs on your pets....priceless!

Poor Sinbad is sick. He just vomited his breakfast in front of Tempest's room, then slunk into the office to curl up in one of my shawls.

@Margd  you are so right about Grizzly's face LOL he was like "Do I look like I am politically active, to you?"

It is shameful.. While we have many sympathizers, we also face much hostility. Which is totally undestandable, because tax payers that are supposed to lift our burdon (that's how media describe it) are misinformed and don't know what's really happening.. Only 4% know about the real history of Europe and the relationship between Greece and Germany.

The problem is that misinformation takes place in Greece as well. And low or non educated Greeks get angry and aggressive towards the Europeans and especially the Germans. And they act like "Greece doesn't owe to anyone" ...which is not the case at all.. There is so much background and "bloopers" on behalf of past Greek officials, but also EU officials and commissioners who are trully to be blamed for their actions back in the 90's.. All this has resulted to every Greek baby right now being born in debt (approximately 35,000 euros) even before its 1st breath...

@Losna  why is Sinbad sick?

@GrizzlySapien I'm not sure. He may have gobbled up his breakfast too quickly. I think I'm going to go cuddle him for a while since he looks so sad. He always seems to be afraid we're going to send him away when he vomits, I think because he moved around foster homes a lot as a kitten due to being sickly.

See you all later!

Poor thing
it must be so stressfull to feel like that.. I agree with you.. Make sure he feels loved no matter what. Also, try not to give him anything to eat for 3-4 hours the least, and give him some boiled chicken afterwards. So as to be "lighter" to his stomach..

Chula just vomited, too.  There must be something in the air this morning!  In her case, it really is just gobbling her food too fast, let's hope that's all Sinbad's problem is, too.

You just told me more about the situation than any news site I've read!  And it occurred to me that maybe we are not supposed to talk politics so I am going to pipe down on this subject!

Oh no!! I'm sorry to hear that. I hope he will feel better soon.

Good morning everyone. I hope this day ends better than it started. I work up an hour late and am trying to get caught up on everything.

@Margd  That's because the news sites don't want the public to know the truth about anything. What they don't sugar coat they cover up with bull sh*t.

Oh I know it's BS.  I  go to the blogosphere  to learn as much as I do , which granted isn't much, but at least it feels more complete than what passes as news these days.  I hope you get caught up!

@Margd  really? I am sorry I extensively wrote about it as well! No more talking about it then.

Just a last hint, @Margd: Try to avoid blogs, as they are not safely crosschecking their sources and info. For exaple, they might tell the truth about a subject, but I never take them under consideration, untill I crosscheck it with other sources (that don't have a common source, of course!)

Try and catch up with sites that strictly REPORT. That don't take sides. Or if they do, they might side with one side, and then they might do it with another side. That's because every side has a righteous point, especially on legal matters and ethical matters as well. I, for instance, don't read only Greek-friendly blogs.. I need to read about the opposite side of the story to make a conclusion. Of course, the safest way on this matter (I will write this and I won't get into politics again) is to read thoroughly the deposited propositions from each side and then see what was signed. Your head will explode, once you reach the conclusion..

Hi, I read about your pet vomiting, umm, if it continues alot and it starts vomiting green stuff, you should take to vet, because it could be an obstruction, or it could not, but just in case, because that happened to my cat, it was because he ate something that blocked his intestines. I hope your pet gets better soon!

Oh, I would love to hear more.  I was just afraid maybe I was breaking some "No Politics" rule I don't know about.  I thought it was fascinating the way you tied it all together.  And I'm one of those people who do know something about the post WWII relationship between Greece and Germany, although I only learned about it recently.  That's one of the reasons I find the situation so shameful, although I was already troubled by it.  I did not like to see the Greek people suffering like they are.

@Margd  Well, we suffer for a number of reasons.. Mainly because of "false" politicians Greek and Europeans. False financial reports (on our behalf), agreements under the table.. EU has been giving us loans which we owe. But former Greek officials turned loans into personal bank accounts and mansions, for them and their courtiers.. Too little ended up paying our obligations. But they did it in full cooperation with EU politicians and large companies as well (like Siemens and Sunlight). Now, they're just trying to make us sign a salvage package that we will never be able to pay back, on purpose. That's why they are asking us to put in morgage 50bn worth of Greek assets... It's such a long story..

I remember reading about plans to force Greece to sell public assets several years ago and I found it very troubling.  Once that's done, there is no way to get them back again.  I guess now it is actually going to happen.  Are you going to lose parks too?  Surely they won't sell the Parthenon?  I remember clambering around the Acropolis as a kid - an absolutely magical memory.
