I am new to this site so still learning how to navigate around. I have a question and would appreciate any advice. I brought a new 12 week old Bengal kitty home 3 days ago. The breeder said he was slow to wean (not sure I spelled that correctly) and she had him on a diet mixture of this glop that included some raw chicken. She gave me recipe if I wanted to continue for a few weeks. She also said she had been trying to get him to eat some dry food without much luck. I continued to feed him this glop meal for 1-2 days but noticed his stool was getting very loose. Yesterday I tried him on a can of the Blue Wilderness Kitten food with poultry to keep him on chicken and now his poo is even runnier. So last night I mixed a little of the wet food with dry and a little pumpkin to try to firm his stools, don't know if it has helped or not, but it did get him to eat some dry. I know there is a long-time debate amongst cat owners whether wet or dry is better, but I've never had good luck with wet food as far as digestion goes. Any cat I have ever had has always responded this way to wet food, no matter the brand. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Dry food will often help clear up loose stools because it is, well, drying.

The only reason for a cat to have diarrhea on canned food is if they have an issue with one or more ingredients in that food, usually something in the gravy.  As long as you feed a good quality, LOW CARB canned food, normally there aren't issues.  (food with gravy is not usually low carb)

What all was in this glob that you fed him, and did you change anything in the recipe that might have caused his stools to get looser?  Did you ask the breeder if his stools were loose before you got him?  I would definitely check with the Breeder and see what they have to say.  I'm guessing he was definitely de-wormed, etc.?

Yes, I agree about speaking with the breeder. I also agree with the above statement about the only reason a cat would have diarrhea on canned food is if there is an ingredient in it that they cannot tolerate.

I wonder if this kitten has a chicken allergy? Especially since it was in both the glop and the canned food you fed. It is actually one of the most common food allergies for cats (along with corn, wheat, soy, beef and fish.)

It might be worth trying a limited ingredient food that is rabbit, duck or turkey. Blue Buffalo has such a diet, as does Nature's Variety Instinct.

You might also need to have a fecal sample done by your vet. This will check for worms and parasites like Coccidia and Giardia.

Sorry! Still trying to learn how to reply to posts. Thanks fork the advice. I ended up taking kitty to Vet and turned out he has some parasites and vet thinks that's causing his intestinal issues. They treated him and told me to continue with what I am feeding which is the Blue. They said if diarrhea hasn't improved by Monday to bring him back in. Hopefully this will take care of the problem. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Parasites will definitely cause this type of issue.  Surprised the breeder didn't check and take care of that type of issue before selling him to you.  BUT, good to know what it is and hopefully it's an easy "fix".

Congrats on your new furbaby, BTW.  We love pictures
