Hi All,

I am looking for some suggestions for my super senior cat, Archie. Archie is 21 years old and the past few days have been tough. He has eye discharge and his back legs have been curling up which gives him trouble walking. Urine and blood just came back with signs of old age. He still eats and gets up to go sit on the back deck with us. Some days he seems fine, other days like today he has trouble getting up. I know his time is coming soon, but he still has a strong will to live which is why I feel like it is not time yet to put him to sleep. He does pee on his bed a lot but he gets up to pee as if he forgets he needs to go to the litter box. He will then walk around crying until we change the pee pee pads we put on his bed. We do not want to X-ray him as that would require sedation and at his age we do not want to risk that, plus he has a history of seizures and he still tries to attack the vet.

Anything I can give him to help with his leg lameness. Anyone been in a similar situation.

Thanks!

Julie

I'm not sure what you mean by his blood work came back "with signs of old age".  Honestly, I've never heard anyone describe bloodwork that way before.  Was his potassium low?  Often that will cause cats to walk on their hocks, meaning they don't walk on their feet, but on the bottom part of their legs.  And obviously have weakness in their legs.  Not sure what exactly you mean by curling his legs up....are you talking about drawing them up towards his stomach like with a leg cramp?  What did the Vet say about that?  .

What exactly was off with his blood tests.  Does he  have arthritis?  That would be fairly common and there are pain meds to help with that (do NOT give him any human OTC meds however).

Wow...21 years old.  That's quite an accomplishment
