Our residents kitties, our girl Hiccup and our boy Syman say hello!

I have one day young kitties. Here's their story:

We rescued momma from a family who seemed to have lost their interest in her. She was once a stray but she learned to love us. We also realized she wasn't spayed when she woke us up in the middle of the night howling at the windows and the doors. She is an INSIDE ONLY cat. We didn't need to spay her...or we thought. My daughter broke a window in March trying to kill a fly. We had just replaced the same window a week earlier because my 17 yo brother had broken it trying to get our dog's attention (I know). We boarded it up with a heavy duty cardboard box and a thick, industrial strength trash bag. The Tom we saw in the neighborhood tore through the cardboard and bag and our female would take night trips with him. We never knew it until our daughter said she caught her coming in one night. Our resident male kept the male from coming in the house. Needless to say, our girl was on punishment for sneaking out with boys who hadn't even met her parents yet.

These kittens are the best. While I know shelter pets need rescuing, we did everything we could and a true accident still happened. This is to let you know:

A) cats will fight tooth and nail when they are in heat. Block any opening with things that cannot be torn through or ripped up. They come and go so quickly and quietly. You won't know what happened until kittens are in your closet on a summer morning in July.
B) Accidents are real. People who don't plan on making shelter pets suffer do have accidental litters. No, we aren't throwing out our girl because she got pregnant. These kittens will be taken care of the best we know how.
C) Does anyone know if this is a girl or boy? I'm thinking we have a litter full of boys with all this orange tabby (Tom is long haired orange tabby neighborhood cat) running through the litter.

Anyway, any insight will help. They are eating, pooping, and mewing. Their legs work, mommy is great with them and she lets us pick them up so long as we don't take them away. Any comments are welcome, even if you think we are bad owners and need to have our pet ownership taken away. Just be sure you've never, ever had an accident in life before you go there. Then I'll be glad to hear that from you.

Hi,

Yes, the black and white kitten is a boy. If your information on the father is correct (Him being a orange tabby), the other black (and white?) kitten is a boy as well. The orange kittens however can be both girls and boys. Not all orange cats are boys. The mom is a tortie (black and orange) cat, meaning that she can give birth to orange girls if the male was orange as well.

And don't worry, accidents happen. It's nothing to be ashamed about. I hope you will take good care of these little ones, and find them a good family to grow up with when they are old enough. If you have any questions, don't feel shy to ask. We will help you out as well as we can!
