I have a 2 year old female cat who began urinating on my bed about 4 months ago and on our couch about 3 months ago. She only ever did this when she went into heat so we had her checked out by a vet and he couldn't find anything wrong with her and assumed it was a marking issue from when she went into heat. We had he spayed a little over a month ago and everything seemed to be getting better the vet took a look at her bladder when he did the spay and said everything seems to be okay with her bladder. it was about 2 weeks ago she urinated on the bed and again today I have sprayed the sheets and the bed with 2 different odor removing sprays but neither seems to have be working. we have 2 other cats who have not been urinating on the bed. I was wondering if anyone out there has any ideas on why this keeps happening or ideas on getting it to stop. (Side Note) She keeps urinating on my side of the bed and I have had some health issues over the past couple of years and my doctor has been unable to find anything wrong and I started to wonder if she could be reacting to some scent I'm leaving behind in my spot I asked a vet and a doctor about this and they both said that it was unlikely but I was wondering what you think.

Did you have her checked for a UTI?  That should be step #1.  A vet cannot tell if she has  UTI by looking at her bladder.  You will need to get a urine sample or the vet will need to draw one directly out of the bladder.

You need to be sure you are using a good enzymatic cleaner to remove the urine.  If not, the cat will continue to use the same spot over and over as it can still tell the urine is there.  Go to a pet store and ask for the best enzymatic cleaner.  You do not just want to cover up the odor.

How many litter boxes do you have?  The golden rule is one per cat plus one extra.  So if you have 3 cats, you need 4 litter boxes.  How often do you clean the litter boxes?  Is anyone being chased or pounced upon in or near the litter box?

Here is an article on litter box issues as well as 2 great videos.

I was looking at the one that comes with the blacklight to help find spots I was hoping someone here could suggest a good one I don't really have a good local petstore with employes that could give me a good answer to that question.

we currently have 3 litter boxes I have another one I could clean up and fill and put out and see if that helps. I try to clean it everyday but at most 2 days I know I should be doing it more often. after watching the video I think I may have gotten a clue as to why she is not using litter box.

Thank you again for the quick response

As for a good enzymatic cleaner, I have used two that I like:

1. NoMo's which I bought at my local pet store

2.  Zep High Traffic Carpet Cleaner.

Natures's Miracle also has a good one as does Jackson Galaxy on his website.  I think it's Fizzion.

I hope you can get the situation under control.

I had a cat that used to pee on my son's bed.  It was a nightmare.  I bought a cheap shower curtain liner to cover the bed.  The cat hated it.  I also would place a few treats on the shower curtain as cats hate to pee and eat in the same spot.  I brought up a cat food dish and would put the treats in the dish.  If the cat did pee, it was a least on the shower curtain liner and not on the bedding.

Thanks for the suggestions on the enzyme cleaners I will take a look. I'm lucky enough that we bought a new bed a couple years ago and bought a great mattress protector  that really protects from most liquid making it through. I really hope we can get this figured out too I feel bad not being able to help her
