Here's a short list of grain-free high quality canned food: http://www.catster.com/forums/Food_and_Nutrition/thread/774137 Some of the brands listed may have dry food available, such as Nature's Variety Instinct.

Cats tend to shed more in the spring and summer. Giving fish oil or other source of omega 3s may help maintain the fur and keep shedding to a minimum. Pet stores sell fish oil and other skin / fur supplements in various forms (treats, liquid, gel, etc).

If the shedding seems excessive you may want to take your cat to the vet to rule out any medical issue like skin problem or allergy.

A lot of the time it depends on what the cat prefers. We could list brands, but really depends on what you prefer and what the cat will eat and like!

I feed:

WET:

Wellness

Simply Nourish

Organix

Nature's Variety Instinct, and Pride

Weruva

DRY:

Acana - as a snack, not as a full meal and not everyday.

** the occasional raw chicken wing every couple of days :)

Some don't like Wellness because it has a good amount of vegetables in them, however I use in my rotation - which I highly recommend - and she loves it.

My cat is very active and the Shelter I adopted him from recommended Purina One cat food so that's what he's on but he eats and he's so active that he thinks he needs to play sleep and eat I'm trying to find a budget friendly dry food that's better for him then Purina One and I have a Petco really close to my house and I want to also feed him canned food but I only get so much money a month

Your best bet, price wise, would be to find a few brands of wet your cat likes and order online. Purchasing by the case really brings the price down (I mostly use Chewy.com, myself, but Amazon, PetFoodDirect.com, and Wag.com are places to checkout too.)

If purchasing in store, the large cans of Friskies, Wellness and Canidae are likely going to be the most cost effective. If you feed 3 oz of wet food daily, one can should last you a little over 4 days, so take that into consideration.

As for dry, from Petco's selection, I'd say Merrick or Whole Earth Farms is likely going to be the best option in your price range.

At Petsmart  you can get Friskies 5.5 oz   . 60 cents  , Fancy Feast 3oz .60 cents  , Authority  5.5 oz .90 cents in cans .   Authority has a grain free  kibble ..

For budget friendly I would say Friskies canned . A 5.5 oz can is about 50 to 60 cents .  I would suggest the pate varieties only though the ones with gravy have too many carbs .

For kibble probably the Authority  , I think it is something like $ 7.99 for a 4 lb bag ..
