Someone set off fireworks near me last night and now all my 10 week feral kittens are missing. Their mama is still here, but she looks worried too. She leaves for a couple hours and then comes back, but she barely ate her breakfast. I put ham out for her and she won't even eat that. She still nurses them. Will they come back? They've never left my backyard that I know of.

Oh dear - yes, this is always worrisome and happens to the kittens of a feral colony. Usually, they will run together but sometimes can be separated in their need to hide from the booms and the extremely loud noise. Do you have any sheds or anywhere the kittens could have gone underneath to hide? Usually they will not run too far but will search out a "hole" in the ground or something solid to hide under. Did you normally see them all day/night running about? Since they are 10 weeks, then at least I am not worried that they are in need of constant nursing. They are really at or past the weaning stage. I think they will return but may be very wary at the moment and am hoping you will have a sighting of them in at least another day. :cross: I hope they did not run too far and get lost but I have heard of mom cats going to search them out to bring them back to safety after the Fourth of July.

Please keep us posted and mega vibes for all of the kittens to return safely. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Ok. I've been kind of looking around the yard, but they live in our shed and always come out when they hear food. They do usually run around at night and early morning. I'm pretty sure missy is looking for them, so hopefully she brings them back. All our surrounding neighbors are home walking around, so I'm thinking if they are in their yard they are hiding from them.

Wyatt, the oldest baby, came back! Just in time for dinner! I just watched missy nurse him, give him a quick bath and then they took off together. I'm hoping he is leading her back to the other 3!! Poor thing loaded up on water before he left. He was so thirsty[emoji]128546[/emoji]

:woohoo: I am THRILLED to hear this news. Very relieved for you! I bet they are hungry and thirsty. They probably were so terrified by all the Fireworks that it took them a day or so to feel safe enough to come back and if they were not in your yard but a neighbor's yard, then that scared them too and kept them in hiding a bit longer. I am sure Missy is quite happy to have her kittens back safe. She sounds like a wonderful mother.

p.s. I have to mention this!! Is there any reason why Missy is not spayed? Please consider getting her spayed asap so no more outdoor kittens are born. And, these little ones, once over two pounds, can be neutered too. If you like, we can help you find a TNR Organization in your area to contact and they will direct you to their local TNR vet. The cost will be very, very minimal. Usually about $35.00 per cat/kitten. Including all vaccinations, microchip, dewormings and flea product too!

They were all hungry and thirsty. Missy seems really tired too. But they are all fine. The babies are all playing together now:)
Missy got spayed a few weeks ago. The babies are all getting spayed over the next two months, girls are going first.

I'm so glad all of the kittens returned
I know how relieved you and the mama cat must be.  I absolutely hate July 4th, it's so hard on all cats. One of my indoor cats hid behind my toilet all night long, and I didn't see my outdoor feral for 24 hours, either.  Glad it's over!
