Hi all I have 3 adult cats 2 male and 1 female and a 3 1/2 month old male kitten. All my cats are FULLY INDOOR CATS. they are on royal canin indoor cat food and have royal canin soft food once a week. My 2 adult males are neutered but think its to soon for the kitten to be neutered. My adult female is not sterilized as it was very expensive so did the males and as I said they have no way of getting out. But my female is getting bigger by the day she really looks pregnant but I am sure my kitten could not have done anything he is a really baby who sleeps with a teddy. By the way its winter in south Africa if that makes any difference. Any suggestions would be most welcome thanks michelle

The ASPCA has been running ads on TV to spay and neuter by 4 months old.   I don't think the kitten could have impregnated her.

How long ago did you neuter your males.

Can you take her to the vet to be checked out?

A couple forumists have had incorrect/bad neutering done and found out when the female became pregnant.

Oh dear that's a worry. The vets here in south Africa are so so expensive. And even the SPCA is no longer reasonable to have your animals checked out. Well i am really hoping she is just having a growth spurt and she is not pregnant. Thanks again for your advise

If you could post a picture of her, showing how big her belly is, and a close up of her nipples it might be easier to tell. Fat cats get fat all over, whereas pregnant females have a swallowed-a-rugby-ball shape to them.

She's quite a chunky girl and her nipples don't look any different from the way they'd usually look to me. It could just be a few extra pounds.

I know it's really expensive, but there are other health reasons for spaying a female cat as well as avoiding unwanted pregnancies. Every time she goes through a heat cycle her chances of developing cancer increase. Maybe you could start putting away a bit of money now and get her spayed in the future? It will work out a lot cheaper then having to deal with other health problems.

Much appreciated for all the help. Its just that she has always been such a tiny girl. But yes will start saving for sterilization i have to get my male kitty neutered in the next couple of weeks first though. This site is so helpful so glad i came upon it. Thanks again

Some cats are just more prone to weight gain than others. Generally speaking, wet food is better than dry, especially if you notice they've suddenly started gaining a few pounds. Maybe try replacing a few of her dry food meals with wet?

She looks like she's in really good condition, lovely thick, shiny coat.

Could she be eating the kitten's food?

Cats tend to gain weight after they are spayed, but she is not spayed, nor does she particularly look pregnant.

Then again, at two years of age, her growing days are over, and she may just be a very plump but content cat. She looks sweet.

Does she experience regular heat cycles?

She doesn't act like a friends cat when on heat her cat meows literally cries for days. She Wolf does get overly affectionate every couple of months but no crying or trying to get out i have had her from a kitten and her brother i got my old boy alley when he was six months old my little ginger was a rescue got him at 3 weeks he is now 3 1/2 months. Maybe cause its winter she is a little more hungry and maybe getting into the kittens food i must watch out for that
