I hope everyone had a good weekend!

Sunrise or Sunset?  Which do you prefer to see?

Definitely sunset!  I am NOT a morning person.  I prefer to go to bed between 1 and 2 in the morning.  This morning and one other day last week my son woke up about 3 hours earlier than normal just screaming and kicking.  I haven't been able to really get out of him what the problem is.  Both times it happened right when I was in the deepest, sweetest part of my sleep and it's really frustrating to me to try to wake up out of that enough to deal with my poor lil guy.  By the time I got back in bed I was awake enough that I didn't drop right back into sleep.  Seeing the sun come up only made me more frustrated.

I love watching the sun set.  It doesn't matter if I'm on a beach or in my backyard; I love watching the colors in the sky.  i love watching the lightning bugs and listening to the sounds of that time of day.  It's peaceful and relaxing!  Someday I'd love to have a screened in porch to sit out on during the sunset; so I can enjoy it bug free.  I would love to sit out there in the rain too.  It sounds heavenly!

Both beautiful but I'll have to say sunset as I'm rarely up in time for sunrise. In fact, if I ever do see the sunrise it's because I'm still up from the night before.

It's supposed to be good luck in this part of the world to get up and watch the first sunrise of the new year, but I've never managed to do it. Get out of bed at 5 am and go outside when it's around -10C? No thank you!

Sunrise looks prettier just here - the way the light falls on the castle is just stunning. I used to always see the sunrise, but I'm more often only awake for sunset these days :sigh:

Wow, your place sounds like something out of a fairy tale. I think we need to see some pictures of that.

One of the most beautiful sunrises I've seen was at Bahia Honda State Park down in the Florida Keys.  A friend and I decided late the night before to jump in the car and make the drive from Fort Lauderdale, where I'd been living in the early 80's) down to Key West to spend the day.  We made it to the upper/mid Keys around 5am if I remember right. and he asked if I'd ever been to that beach before.  I hadn't so we decided to make the stop.  We were the only people out at that hour and well, it was magical.  Took a quick nap after the sun came up and then headed down to our destination.

Best sunset?  That same night in Key West.  If you've never experienced it, put it on your bucket list.  Aside from the incredible setting sun display, the entire atmosphere and people watching is an experience in itself.

It depends. If we're on vacation, I like the sunrise, depending on where we're staying. When we're staying right on the beach, I'll always be up with my coffee and sitting out on the balcony of our hotel watching the sun come up and waiting for the dolphins to come. I love sunrises on the ocean. Beautiful.

At home, while I'm usually up and feeding the cats around 5:00 or so, I'm bleary-eyed and could care less about any sunrise. But we do enjoy some spectacular sunsets from our backyard.

I enjoy both, but I'll choose sunset. I'm not a morning person either, and even if I am awake around that time I'm all googoobleh to really soak in a lovely sunrise.

And do love all the lovely colours a sunset can offer!

That is a gorgeous view Columbine!

I think part of the problem with our views is that its so flat here!  Sometimes the sunsets are gorgeous because of that; they take over the whole sky.  But because of our trees we don't get the best view of the sunrise.  My in-laws live on a ridge over a valley; but they have a mountain view.  It's stunning at sunrise when the sun comes over the mountain and again at sunset when it shines on the mountain.  The mountain changes colors and you get to see why the mountains are called "The Smokies."  I think the only sunrises I've seen there were when we were getting ready to go home.  Or if I woke for a potty break at the right time.

Thanks MoochNNoodles MoochNNoodles . I suppose the sad thing is that it kind of gets tuned out when you live here. It's so easy to forget the amount of beauty around here when you see it every day. It takes outsiders admiring the scenery to make us locals stop and take stock sometimes :lol3:

So, it's amazing to wake up to that view when I remember to appreciate it :anon: :lol3:

...with the cats...
while i enjoy watching both the sunrise and the sunset, i'm definitely a morning person so i see many more sunrises. where i live, the sunrise has it's own gradual process. first the birds start chirping and the sky starts getting lighter, until it's daylight but no sun yet. then the sun makes it's way further up in the sky to where it's above the tree line. i start seeing some sunshine angling in the corners of my living room windows. as the sun rises higher in the sky it also moves across the sky, so the sun i see through my living room windows moves from left to the right -- and the sun shining on my living room floors moves from the right to the left.

occasionally, there will be some pink/orange/purple/yellow coloring on clouds during the sunrises, as well as the sunsets here.

I'd say sunset as I'm a late riser and late to bed but i don't remember the last time I saw a sunrise or sunset. I am sometimes awake to hear the dawn chorus which is beautiful.
