My kitty gets struvite urinary crystals any time he is under stress and lately we're going through a remodel so there has been a lot of stress. The vet hasn't really had much to offer. I think adding methionine to his food is helping, but it is taking a while.

I was thinking fish oil, or omega-3's might help, but he doesn't like the fish oil from my capsules I take. Anyone have recommendations for a good omega-3 source for kitties? One that is tasty?

I must mention, this cat will only eat 2 types of food (wet), both must have sauce. He doesn't really drink water, but I can get him to drink tuna juice. He is Mr. Picky-Pants to the extreme.

Thanks all!

I don't think omega 3 helps with urinary issues but I could be wrong. Have you tried mixing the fish oil into the canned food? You can try fish oil or other EFA supplements from the pet store. Maybe salmon oil would go over better with your cat than regular fish oil? Or something in treat form. Raw feeders here on TCs sometimes use krill oil instead of fish oil.

Do you add water to the canned food? That's an easy way to get water into the cat if hes not drinking from a bowl

His current treatment consists of wet food only, extra water added. About 3-4 meals a day because big meals tend to make the urine less acidic. I'm being very careful about him getting any dry cat food at all. I'm adding methionine to his food which is supposed to help acidify the urine.  I give him about 200mg a day. I just got some treats with cranberry, so I just started that. Oh yes, I also give him a methionine gel that has a little cod liver oil in it. He is a big kitty, about 14-15 pounds.

The vet did prescribed a antidepressant, but they were so tiny I couldn't get them down him! They didn't fit in the pill dispenser and he wouldn't take the pill pocket.

I am using Feliway, but not sure that's helping at all. Poor guy is in a misery.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Will he eat urinary help food?
My sisters cat had this issue, and the vet had her add a small dash of salt to his wet food to make him want to drink water.

Can you buy a watering fountain? Would that help?

Poor guy. Any chance you can keep him in a single, quieter room during the duration of the house work?

We haven't even started the remodel, just moving things and packing and having people in and out. I will definitely be shutting them in my bedroom during the remodel. Poor guys. It'll be noisy and scary, I'm sure.

I've got a fountain and I've seen him drink from it once. He's such a fussy, fussy eater I declined to try the urinary food. I don't know... maybe I will try it. They'll take it back if he won't eat it.

Meanwhile I'm trying cranberry treats for him. Lots of folks swearing by it.

I'd think with all the water he's getting in his food and the tuna juice that he's plenty hydrated and his pee is dilute.

Then we had the 4th of July and fireworks... that just made it all worse!  Well, the next few days should be very calm.

Ugh, I hate fireworks. Poor animals everywhere getting freaked out. :( As for locking the cats up during your renos, I think that's the best thing for everybody. You can't trust tradesmen to be careful with your pets (speaking from experience here) and your cats will feel safer in their own room.
