Any suggestions for added calories when using a/d for tube feeding?

Right now I'm just using water.  But I hate having to cut her calories and add to her volume.

I have powdered KMR.  I was think of using that instead of just water...Any other suggestions?

What if I post this cute picture of Crimmie and one of my kiddos?...pretty cute
He was trying to rest and she jumped up on him and got comfy, like she always has!

How can I help her to be healthy again?

I don't know why adding KMR rather than water wouldn't work.  Just mix it up per the instructions and add it in.  I've used it before to add in calories to one of my cats, but he didn't like the taste.  since you're using a feeding tube, taste doesn't matter.

Crimmie MUST be feeling better since she's out of hiding in the closer, huh?  Very good sign.  Cute cat, cute kid

Hi, having had Mikey have a tube for 4 and a half months....I have some suggestions.
http://www.jefferspet.com/products/nich-quick-start

This is an oil rich liquid that adds 180 kcals per oz. , thats alot when you are trying to add calories to a small volume.
Doing some math that is 30 mls per oz. Which ends up 6 kcals a ml. Doesn't sound like much, but it makes a difference.
I used to prepare the days food in a minature blender..adding the A/D, and the Nich q.start with about 5 mls of water. Gets out all the lumps. Load your syringes & store the rest of the day's supply in the fridge.

Good luck ! We beat the Fatty Liver disease...she started eating on her own again.... but the $!#&* tumor won a month later, it was nonsurgical.

How much did you add to one can of a/d?

What are the calorie goals for the day ? If I remember correctly, Mikey's was 240. (Its been a few yrs) A/D is 180 kcals, I tried to split it into 3 feedings.... wish I saved my notes ! I added I think, 10 mls which equalled 60 kcals.

Add the 180 and 60, you get 240 kcals divided into 3 feedings. 35 or 60 cc. syringes work best. I also searched around at the other pate foods and tried to find the highest cals. possible.

The feline assisted feeding group on yahoo was a huge help.

The goal is 1-1 1/2 cans a day.  Crimmie weighs 7.2 lbs  I am attempting 30ml this morning for the first time.  It has taken a while  to get to this point.  I'm looking for anything I can to increase calories without increasing the volume too much.  I just ordered some, thank you!

I have posted in that group...

There is a product called Iams veterinary formula maximum calorie diet. It comes in a can with a purple and white label. It's what we tube feed cats with at the clinic where I work. A/D is great but this is a better calorie/nutrition balanced diet that's more suitable for long term feeding than A/D is. I'd give this a shot if I were you.
