Would getting a kitten friend for my adopted stray be a good idea?

Hi! So I've had my cat Carl for probably about a year now. I adopted him off of the street because he was always hanging around my porch, and now he is a 100% indoor cat. When he was outdoors he was always very aggressive to all other cats, and got in fights quite regularly.  He is exceptionally sweet and loving to my boyfriend and I now. Now that he is indoors, I would love to get him a friend, but I don't know what to expect from Carl. He's probably 3 or 4, does anyone have any thoughts on how getting a kitten would go? I would assume it would be much less threatening than a full grown cat, but would he know it was a kitten? I'm afraid of him hurting it.

I recently adopted a kitten for my feral rescue. And they hit it off right away. It just depends both cats. The kitten is a ball of pure energy and fur. My feral is young enough were they get along. Yuki is 11 months old while Shiro is 3 months. I suggest the slow introduction. Keep the separated in different rooms. Slowly swap items in the rooms so the can learn of the scent of the other. They will be curious and see each other under the door. Then begin short monitored meetings. Then go from there.
Yuki and Shiro hanging out.

Shiro passed out and Yuki watching over him.

I would recommend getting Carl a friend, especially if he spends several hours at home alone. I know people think cats are solitary animals and for some that is true, but I have found that your single cat would be much happier if he/she had someone to keep them company.

Besides, think of how much fun it would be for you to watch them loving and playing together.

I'm sure he'd really appreciate a friend. I guess you've had him neutered? The reason outdoor male cats get in so many fights is that they are a raging ball of hormones. If he's been neutered he'll be much calmer than he used to be.

Rather than getting a tiny kitten how about a young cat between 4 ~ 8 months old? He'll be closer to Carl's size, but still young enough for Carl to see him or her as a friend rather than a threat.

I have a lot of cats, but my oldest and my youngest really adore each other.

Toby, on the left, is one and Gin kun is over 13 years old.

I guess as NoraChan.  I presume Carl was intact tom as homeless, and he is now neutered?   If so, everything should go easier.

Also, observe, as Carl was a survivor, he has an immune system well above average.  Otherwise he would perish quite soon...

Thus, you dont need to overdo the usual quarantine, if you adopt a young stray...

Deworming, defleasing, be reasonably sure the new one is healthy, but as said, you dont need to overdo.

First off,........... I think you are a wonderful and caring person for bringing Carl into your home. I'm sure Carl feels the same about you for giving him a safe and loving home. As far as getting him a friend, I think it's a GREAT idea and I'm sure someone will give you some tips on how to introduce them. GOOD LUCK !!!!!     I'd like to get my cat a little play mate but he's older and I don't know if it would be a good idea.
