Hi Everyone, I found this site because I'm worried about my cat. She's 2 years old and got really sick 2 1/2 weeks ago. I found a vomit hairball woven with thread and then took her to the vet. There was A LOT of thread pulled off of my mom's sewing machine (usually it's covered but in the midst of moving she left it out).

The vets proceeded to do other measures for 2 days (including an X-ray) prior to me asking for surgery. During surgery they did not cut into the stomach lining or intestinal track, but just tried to help along the contents of her bowel. She seemed to do better for a while, between having fluid packs and nausea medication administered frequently and on pain meds. Once she started vomiting and having diarrhea, I tried other medications. Her movements seemed to have a strand attaching each pod but I couldn't tell if it was thread. At this point, she's not interested in eating and I've had to start her on new medications to line the stomach and help with acid.

She's not currently vomiting or having diarrhea but she seems to be worse today. Her stitches have been out since Wednesday and she should be OK by now but I'm getting concerned that she's not pulling through. Also I've been giving her medication via a syringe (watered down) and have also been trying to get her to eat baby food (which is sometimes just applied to her to lick off). She's lost at least 2 lbs. She's also grown weary of me because I'm the mean one always forcing medications and food, so she's distancing herself.

If anyone has advice for me to talk to my vet, that would be helpful. I got an ultrasound last week (post surgery) and there was inflammation but nothing pointing to cancer or anything else. I've put thousands of dollars onto a family member's credit line because I'm disabled and just need to know if continuing to pay for vet appointments could be worthwhile. I thought maybe she needs steroids or antibiotics at this point.

I'm so sad and drained but I am trying very hard to pull her through this. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Ask for an x-ray to be sure there is no other blockages and she may need to have surgery again, unfortunately.  If need be, get her to the ER vet immediately.  Sounds like she's going downhill quickly.
