Hi, Happy Saturday.

How do you make your home smell nice? What kind of scents do you use?

I have an oil diffuser in the bathroom that my brother in law brought back from Bali, it smells of jasmine flowers. I also put scented oils in my humidifier, either peppermint or eucalyptus. I don't need to use the humidifier at this time of year though, it's already damp enough.

I also burn incense. I like Nag Champa or sandalwood.

There is a feral tom cat who comes past and sprays outside my front door most nights so I put a few sticks on incense in the flower pot out there every morning, just to try and get rid of his smell.

We just open the windows multiple times a day, also in winter, and use a HEPA air filtration device. I've got a number of allergies, so I never use stuff like incense or oils and avoid candles due to the cat.

I burn incense - Nag Champa is one of my favourites too. I also like Sandlewood, Patchouli and Jasmine.

I also use scented candles - most often Vanilla (the choice of scents locally isn't all that inspiring :lol3: )

I used to love to burn candles, but gave it up when we got Mollipop. I don't trust her; as a kitten, she was always into everything and, even with me right there in the kitchen with the candle, she wouldn't leave it alone. So no candles.

Have always loved patchouli and jasmine incense, but I don't use incense either.

We keep the windows open as much as we can during the summer. During the winter, there's not much we can do.

I've been buying a lavender scented air freshener - the kind that are gel beads.  I think it's by Renuzit, but I could be wrong.  I like them because the cats can't get into them, and they aren't overpowering.  But, those are only in the bathrooms. We don't really use them in other rooms but I will burn candles sometimes.  I'm very partial to vanilla or lavender.  I like the Yankee Candle brand and will buy other scents to suit seasons; I think the one I have here (it was huge, never got finished!) is something like Ginger Cookie, or some other spicy autumn scent.

I use a pillow mist in our bedroom from Bath and Body Works.  It's from their "Sleep" line - again a lavender vanilla scent.  I LOVE this stuff. It's a soft, relaxing fragrance and not overpowering in the least.  I also spray the sheets/blankets with it and sometimes, even in the air around the bed.  Now that I think of it, I'm almost out so off to their website I go

I started using lavender oil in a diffuser, once a day, once my vet took a look at it and gave the okay. I may start mixing different oils to get different scents, although I avoid the citrus types. I'm not so sure how I feel about lavender, though. :lol3:

I have these perfumed sticks in a vase which I bought from HSN and it keeps the rooms smelling really nice for a very long time.  I also use Lysol spray on occasion  .

We are able to  keep windows open here pretty much year-round, that's best air freshener.  I burn incense, too.  Another Nag Champa fan here, and patchouli.  I have tons of candles but rarely burn them any more.  The Three Amigos are just too curious!

Keeping the house smelling fresh was a constant battle in our old place. We just couldn't clean wall-to-wall carpet well enough, even with yearly professional cleaning and using a Dyson animal vacuum, I could smell cat every time I came home in the winter (when we couldn't leave windows open). It seems the fabrics are what hold in the odors - sofas, carpets, draperies.

But in our new house we have no wall-to-wall carpets, hooray! It's kind of echo-y here right now but we are going to get smaller rugs that I can beat outside or take away to have cleaned if necessary. No draperies in the house, either, just roller shades in the bedrooms and a few simple linen curtains and I can take down and wash. We bought a steam cleaner to use on the cloth sofas and to spot-clean hairball stains on the rugs, so hopefully our new house will continue smelling good!

I have severe asthma with chemical sensitivities so I can't use air fresheners, scented candles, incense (way too smoky), or most cleaners. I'm excited about cleaning with steam but haven't had a chance to use the steam cleaner yet.

-Lysol spray.
-Incense.

-Fabric spray.
-Scented candles/oil wax melty thingies for the winter, locally made.
-Open windows.
-Fresh flowers.

Honourable mention: Potpourri! I don't use them too often, but my mom really likes them.

And the usual house cleaning duties that everyone does, from cleaning floors, washing carpets outside, dusting, washing curtains/windows, etc etc! :)

I burn a candle when I need to make the house smell nice but usually don't use anything. I don't like to use anything heavily scented around the kids and pets.

I will put some essential oils in a diffuser once & a while. I never use citrus though since cats don't like citrus, & don't want to stress Angel out.  Lavender is a favorite, & usually buy it in a larger size, because I use it for so many different things. I make bath salts/ scrubs, use it in massage oil when I have massage clients, put it in the diffuser, etc..

I don't burn incense too often because I worry that it will bother Angel, but when I do, I make sure to put it up high, so it's not in his nose's path.

With it being just the two of us, & me scooping after every litter box visit, there isn't really a "need" to use anything, it's just nice to do sometimes. I also love aromatherapy & love to make blends!

A few years ago, I created about 8-9 blends for bath salts that I would love to sell one day, but using pure essential oils, & enough of them to actually smell them gets expensive.

I did sell a few jars of a couple of blends I created back when I was a buyer in the health & Beauty dpt. at a local co-op a few years ago. Now, I just make them as gifts when I can.

The boys got to it.  I can just imagine the thought bubbles over their heads:  "Oops, we're gonna get it now!"

Or "Hm, that didn't crash as hard as we thought. Remember that glass vase? That was glorious."

Haha--yeah, that's probably more like it.

At any rate, no potpourri around here any more.

I love candles too but won't burn them with Sophie around. I don't think Lilith would mess with them but I think Sophie would. I like the plug ins from Bath & Body Works. I stock up on refills when they have their semi annual sales. I adore patchouli and jasmine, too. Sandalwood and vanilla are favorites as well. B&BW has a scent called moonlight path that I really love. it's one of their best. I have some refills for my plug in that I will be using soon.

There's no keeping the windows open here in the summer. It's just too hot. I wish I could. My AC went out about a week and a half ago and it was horrible. I came home from work and it was 93 in the house. I asked my DD to open windows, out box fans in them and turn on all the ceiling fans to try to get some air circulating through the house but it didn't help. She did what I asked and then abandoned ship to go to her boyfriend's house leaving the furkids to suffer alone ( I was LIVID). I had to set up a window AC unit by myself when I got home. That was fun.

As soon as it was set up, Sophie parked herself on the chair in front of it and sprawled out on her back with her belly in the air. I had to set up a spot for Lilith because her sister didn't leave her any room. Henry refused to come out of his room but he was OK because I put a box fan in his window and with the ceiling fan going and the door closed, his room was actually pretty cool. His room doesn't get much direct sun so that helped too. Putting ice in their fountains also helped but it wasn't fun.

Winter is the only time we can keep the windows open here. I have to run the AC 24 hours a day most of the year so I do look forward to the times I can shut it off and open them

definitely Nag Champa incense!!! As a matter of fact I'm all out and need to buy more. There's just something so therapeutic about it. I even have a little bottle of the liquid that sometimes i use as a perfume. Other than that sometimes after I do some cleaning I'll spray some of that air febreeze around the house.
