Dishwasher, Part 2
Somebody from Lowes is coming in this afternoon to measure our height for a new dishwasher. When we measured, we got 33-3/4 inches in height. They think we need at least 34 inches to get a new dishwasher installed. The problem is that when people put in new flooring, they simply install the new floor over the old floor. And they keep doing this, which decreases the available height for appliances because the dishwasher is usually installed over the original flooring. We now have three layers of flooring in the kitchen and the dishwasher sits on the oldest (and lowest) floor. It may not seem like it should make a big difference, but according to installers, it really does. So, in order to get a new dishwasher installed, we may have to rip up some of the flooring around the dishwasher. We shall see. (We do have extra floor tiles and we can get the guy who installed this floor to come in and replace any torn tiles. But we'll see what happens today.) It cost us $35 to have the guy come in to measure, but we'll get it back when we buy the dishwasher.
If it all works out OK, we'll buy a new dishwasher. And I've decided on a Bosch. Do I feel comfortable with a Bosch? Not really. But I don't feel comfortable with any dishwasher models, to be honest. And we'll get it from Lowes. With a five-year extended warranty. We don't normally do extended warranties as they're quite a waste of money. But with the way dishwashers are today and with everything I'm reading about how bad dishwashers really are, I'm going to take my chances with the warranty. Right now, they're on sale at Lowes. And basic installation is free (normally $150); you have to pay it, but then you get the rebate through the mail.
Hopefully everything will go OK this afternoon. And if it does, we're going down tonight to buy the Bosch. I have had it up to "here" with washing dishes!
