A few days ago, our cats eye looked kinda funny, like half closed, but later that nite it looked better. Then for a couple of days he started trying to go potty on the floor in our office rather than in the litter box 8 feet away -- today his face looks "red", almost like a rash and he has been pulling out his fur on his legs and chest

Any ideas as to what this could be? Any suggestions on what I can try?

Our vet is out until monday and the Emergency vet around here will cost more than we can afford at the moment, so any suggestions would be appreciated

Our other 4 cats do not seem to be affected, so I hope whatever it is, it is not contagious

I'd call another local vet who may be open today. Hopefully you can find one.

Honestly, I've never heard of anything like this, but his symptoms sound like something that should be seen by a vet as soon as you can. Try just getting out the telephone book & calling around to other vet clinics in your area to see if anyone other than the emergency clinic is open today - hopefully you'll find one that is open that is not an emergency clinic. Some places have extended-hours clinics that don't charge an emergency fee. Even if you have to drive a while, it would be better to see a vet ASAP than to wait all weekend. Good luck, & keep us posted.

Also, you may want to do a check-over of your home to make sure that there's nothing chemical that your cats could have gotten into - any pesticides or cleaners, OTC flea treatments, etc., that might pose a danger to your cats.

I was once told by my vet that whenever a cat pulls fur out, it is due to an allergic or medical reaction. Check over your house for something the cat may have gotten into, then find an open vet!
