My oldest cat is susceptible to UTI and the last time it happened I nearly lost him [emoji]128533[/emoji] He and my other 2 have all been on prescription Royal Canin S/O formula for 2 years. However, we just moved out of state and we realized when we got here that we left their food at our old apartment 280 miles away!! I went to a local pet shop and they suggested a dry food that was both very affordable and grain-free, low magnesium and phosphate. I usually try to switch gradually, but this was an emergency. T
Now they won't eat at all! 1 ate the wet food I set out at dinner but the other 2 walked away. I'm really concerned that they'll make themselves sick by not eating!! It's been 2 days. We're going away for the weekend and I want to know they're all right.
They were on Nutro years ago and did fine on it, and Science Diet was ok for them as well. Either one better? What should I be looking for in ingredients? Any other brands you recommend? I know they should avoid dry all together, but they're 8, 9 and 10 years old - they're stubborn and pretty set in their preferences!!

Please help!! I want my babies to be ok [emoji]128546[/emoji]

If you're going to feed dry, I'd suggest that you feed the lowest carb formula you can, or that you stick with the prescription diet.

There does seem to be something about the Royal Canin s/o - I have an flutd cat, and the s/o is the only dry food he'll eat (he gets mostly wet, but likes a little kibble occasionally. Like yours, he's set in his ways and is very resistant to change). The funny thing is my new girl refuses to recognise kibble as food, but will try anything she can think of to get her paws on the s/o kibble! It's clearly designed to be extra yummy.

Given that they're going on semi hunger strike, I'd get some more royal canin for them and let them have what they're used to.

When feeding dry it's vital to boost fluid intake to compensate. This article has loads of great ideas http://www.thecatsite.com/a/tips-to-increase-your-cat-s-water-intake

Can you just get another bag of the Royal Canin ?  Have you tried Fancy Feast Classics ? My cats love it , actually that is the only wet food they will eat ..  A lot of cats also like Friskies canned  ( pate varities ) although mine hate it .

Purina Pro Plan makes a urinary tract formula . Although not grain free it is low in magnesium & phosphorus . There is also Purina One Urinary Health formula .

My cats are super picky and they love Wysong Optimal  Vitality .  It is not grain free but it has very low carbs @ only 12% , low  magnesium & phosphorus ..  It is not widely available in store here though so I buy it on Chewy.com ..http://www.chewy.com/cat/wysong-optimal-vitality-dry-cat-food/dp/110391

Hi thanks for asking!! We did get a small bag of the RC, which of course they love, but my budget isn't fond of. I'll try to incorporate the new food they refused last week somehow. But I still want to switch them over. Still looking for suggestions on a good, affordable food alternative!!

Awesome , I am glad they are eating again ..

Check out Wysong Uretic .   My cats are super picky and they love this one .  I alternate it with Wysong Opitmal Vitality ..

Have you checked out online suppliers for the rc? In the uk, it's possible to get it substantially cheaper online from big pet food sites and veterinary supplies sites. Worth a look, surely.
