Well we found her about a month ago and she is now roughly 10 weeks old. She was outside in a bush all alone, so we decided to take her in. She is doing great (aside from testing positive for FIV unfortunately :( but we've got that under control) The biggest issue we have is that she is getting too comfortable testing her limits with our 2 year old chihuahua. They love playing together and get along great. She isn't aggressive with him and he isn't aggresive with her. They run around the house and play fight, but she bats at him with her paws and pounces on him and ends up scratching him sometimes. we always have to keep a close eye on them because if they are in the other room sometimes we hear a yelp from our dog and we've found scratch marks on his back (his hair is really thin). At first we wouldn't break it up because we thought it was cute but now since she hurts him sometimes, we always try to stop her from being too rough. My boyfriend is really worried that she is going to seriously hurt our dog by scratching his eyes or ears and is now wanting to get rid of her or get her declawed when she's old enough. I really really really don't want to give her up and I know declawing is super inhumane. So i feel like I'm running out of options :/ I do need to get her a scratching post, I'm sure that could help. But I still feel like she will still do it when they play because that's how she plays. We keep her nails short and they still do damage. I've also heard of the soft paws to cover their nails. Anyone have any experience with those? Any suggestions would help thanks!!!

I would not get her de clawed.. it can cause behavior changes. Can you get soft claws? They are nail caps that prevent from scratching as their nails are covered and a better alternative than de clawing. You can find them at PetSmart & Petco. And Amazon.

There are some reviews for the Soft Claws / Paws here on TCS :  http://www.thecatsite.com/products/soft-claws-soft-paws-for-cats

I would worry about declawing - even if were not such a barbaric procedure (and illegal across most of the world),  the cat's instincts for play, attack and defence are still there.  What many cats do is resort to using those options left - which means teeth and they sometimes develop a harder bite and long term aggressive behaviours can sometimes result from post surgery pain in their paws.  You could find your cat seriously biting your small dog and that would be worse than anything his claws would do.

Far better to go for calm introductions with your little dog on leash and both attended so they can learn the boundaries of safe play.
