About 2 mo ago we adopted a 6yo after losing our 11yo. Had 2 odor the most laid back...couch potato cats. New 6yo, Louie, seems to be hyperactive. We play w him a couple times a day. He follows me around almost constantly, tries to get out or into any open door or cupboard, very vocal and isn't a lap cat at all still working on grooming and nail trimming, but he wants to be on the go. Food, behavior? He had tooth resorption and wondering if that has anything to do w it. Any ideas? Thanks

Is Louie the cat you have as your avatar? If so, siamese cats and their relatives are known to be very vocal and hyper. ;) Even if not, every cat has its own personality, they are not all lap pets. You can play with Louie more and provide him with toys and activities to drain out some energy, but you can't force him to be something he is not. Some cats also need a companion to chill out. That's the case of my siamese Schrody. He was always pacing around, yowling and getting into trouble when he was alone. Now he's much more relaxed but he is still far from a lap cat and pretty dynamic.

No, that is Bandit, the one we lost in April. He was "Himalayan" and very laid back. Louie is "Maine coon/ forest cat". Our other cat is 11yo and has arthritis. She's way past the playing stage

Maine Coons and Norwegian Forests aren't particularly known to be hyper, but I guess it's personality over breed. Maybe experiment a bit with how much you feed him to see if he could be hungry? If he's not overweight that is. But to me it just looks like he's playful and clingy.
