My cat Tabby who has IBD has loose stools. It’s funny, just a few weeks ago, she had hard stools, even thought she was on medication (Miralax) for it!

I changed her diet to the NV’s LID Rabbit canned food from the NV’s LID Turkey canned food, it got better, so I stopped giving her the Miralax.

I took Tabby to the vet last week, and the vet told me that she’s been a lot better, so I can lower the dosage of her steroid (Prednisolone). I was really happy about it. The vet told me that the NV’s LID Rabbit works well on her.

At that time her stools were a bit soft already, but I thought it’s a good sign because she didn’t have hard stools… Also, I thought when she will get used to the new diet, and her bowel movements will get back to normal, but her stools keep getting softer with every bowel movement…

Do you have any thoughts on improving her stools?

I would love to know a natural way /remedy to prevent her bowel movements.

Does can pumpkin work for IBD cat?

Because Tabby had hard stools, I used to add water to her food, and I still do, but less, should I stop adding water… ?

By the way, Tabby is only on one medication; Prednisolone.

Any help would be appreciated!

Yes canned ORGANIC pumpkin works if your cat will eat it. Make sure you get plain pumpkin, not the pie filling. There is also another type of probiotic called S. Boulardii that could help in addition to the Provobial DC I told you about in another thread. You can do a search for pumpkin and S. Boulardii on this website and find a lot of info

Hi mphscat, Thank you so much for quick response and your help! Yes I saw and commented the another thread. Before I try the probiotics, I think I will try  pumpkins first. I have read some of the thread about pumpkins, but my cat has IBD. Have you tried it yourself with success to firm up your IBD cat's poop?

My cats IBD problem is throwing up, not diarrhea, because his upper intestines vs his lower intestine was inflamed.

Several people that I know had great success with the pumpkin.

I would still investigate the importance of using probiotics with IBD cats even if you opt for the pumpkin. Lots of info on this site and Google.

Many, many cats - especially IBD cats - have had their diarrhea resolve with the use of a specific yeast-based probiotic, S boulardii. It is not digested, but passes through to the intestines undigested, where it works locally in the lumen of the gut to help restore normal function. It has anti-inflammatory properties, helps prevent unhealthy bacteria from adhering to the intestinal wall, and helps promote growth of healthy bacteria.

Here is more information: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/283161/saccharomyces-boulardii-use-for-diarrhea-and-gi-disease-incl-ibd

Given it has healing properties that specifically address what are often underlying issues in IBD, I prefer trying it over fiber (pumpkin or other) first.

Hi mphscat and LDG,
Thank you so much for your help! Tabby’s main IBD problem is also throwing up. LDG, that is a very helpful link!

Somehow her poops were better today!
I didn’t do anything beside didn’t add water to her feed. Lately She doesn’t drink water at all, so I’m not sure this is a good idea though…

Hopefully the loose stools are just her body getting used to all the changes. I’ve started a few new things at the almost same time: the Pred dosage has been cut in half, stopped giving her Miralax, and changed her diet.

I guess since her poops were better today, I will wait in a few days and see! If she will continue to have soft stools, I’ll try pumpkin or S. Boulardii!

Thank you again for your kind attention!
