My cat has Small Cell Lymphoma of the GI tract.  He has been on Leukeran for 2 treatments now.  The vet recommended 6mg every other week.  My cat did not tolerate this dosage.  At the peak of the chemo effectiveness he had a reaction.  Not serious, but scary.  Only lasted 24 hours.  To rule out an obscure symptom, the vet had me repeat the dosage and wait.  Same reaction.  An oncologist was consulted and recommended a lower dose twice a week.  Will try this next and hold my breath.  If you are thinking about putting you cat on Leukeran, there are some side effects, so watch for them.

My 10 pound cat takes 1.8 mg Chlorambucil - generic Leukeran - three times a week, every week.  She had a bit of time with it at first but is doing better with it now that I am dosing her every 60 hours as opposed to every 48 hours M-W-F. By the way, chlorambucil is the same drug as Leukeran but is sold for a much lower price than Leukeran which I have heard is $11 or $12 per pill now. Something to consider if money is an issue.

Thank you both for this information.  '

SharonC, I hope the treatment works for your cat and he goes into remission.

Cat Pal, you little  one is taking this for something other than cancer, correct?

My cat Vivian has significant thickening and loss of layering throughout her large intestine/colon, which causes loose stool with blood. A needle biopsy of one spot on the intestine was not conclusive for lymphoma, but ultrasound findings and symptoms are consistent with lymphoma, so that is what she is being treated for.  Pred did not completely resolve symptoms but did put her blood glucose into diabetic range. Seems like it might be harder to get her to eat now that she is on clorambucil but she is also tapering pred, so that will interfere with appetite. She is eating, but sometimes needs to be reminded and encouraged. That didn't happen before.

I was thinking IBD or something similar, which I suppose it might be, since the needle biopsy was inconclusive for Lymphoma.  Boy, that's a tough spot to be in.

Is the diabetes under control now?  Is she still on the Pred?  Is she also on an appetite stimulant along with the Chlorambucil?

for Vivien too!
