I'll give the dirt thing a try then see if it helps, I'll talk to grandmother about the outside thing but I have a feeling she will not listen if she doesn't believe me she'll keep taking the kitten outside. She is in the mind set that no one knows better than her and has expressed this vocally about the kitten but if I am careful with my wording she may listen.

She now wants the name Cooper for him by tomorrow she'll want no name for him.

I'm unsure why but I really feel like he needs two names like Louie Rogers or something like that eh maybe it'll pass.

You can come up with your own name for him regardless! ;)

Does he sleep with you at night?

He did last night but I tend not to have animals in my room makes my asthma flare up pretty badly, so he's on his own tonight. I just can't be around animals too long usually with my asthma.

He's got plenty of soft things to sleep on though and I was with him for a good chunk of the day today so hopefully he should be okay to be on his own tonight.

I guess you can see about him if you hear him crying. Is he in the family room?

He's in our guest/spare bedroom. We had him in a cage to move him around when needed but he slipped out of it so he has the whole room to himself now, it really the only place he doesn't have to worry about the larger cats or the dogs.

We managed to get him to a kind of vet today. Turns out he had a very high fever which he got a shot for and has some pills to take for it and there is something wrong with his ribs but the vet didn't know what and said it would heal on its own. Other than being upset with going to the vet he is doing a lot better, using his litter box, drinking water, eating dry food, and playing a lot. Also for the moment we're going with Louie Rogers for his name.

Sounds good! I like that name! :)

Glad you got him some medical help.

What is "a kind of a vet" though?

I hope he continues to improve! I could tell from what you said about his breathing that he had a problem.

Thank you my grandmother hates the name but that just makes me love it more.

Kind of vet is what I call him since he only shows up I think its either weekly or monthly in a certain town and doesn't have an office per say just an empty building with minimum equipment and works by himself. He doesn't even have anything to put animals out for a bit for things like fixing them only something to paralyze them. Heck I'm not even sure if he has an xray machine to see if they could see what was wrong with Louie. My grandmother took him I had house work to do so I didn't go with her.

As do I though with how he is acting I think chances of him getting better are very good.

Okay so...I hate to be bearer if bad news, but on the off chance that the mother cat is still around, there is no way she will accept the kitten back simply because he is now covered in human scent. Cats have absolutely no problem abandoning their young if they think said young will endanger the rest of the family. Some cats have even abandoned whole litters because a human touched the kittens. The reason why I say this is because I haven't noticed anyone else point this out. How I know this is because I've had to bring a whole litter of kittens to an animal shelter once because the mother abandoned them after I touched them. I would have loved to keep one of them but sadly my allergy to cats back was almost as bad as my allergy to rabbits is now. And even if I wasn't allergic I still couldn't have kept any of them because I just didn't know how to take of kittens at that point. My allergy has since lessened to the point I can now take care of any abandoned kittens I find and I have also found a cat that I'm not allergic to (rescued off the streets after his mom abandoned and even tried to kill him) and have had the opportunity as well as motivation to learn the things associated with taking care of kittens.

The mother is still around my grandma is sure of this since this it is part of a large group of wild cats she feeds daily which is how she found the kitten to begin with. I'm still discussing trying to keep the kitten longer to find it a home since it's too little to be on it's own but given how often I have gotten upset with her for bringing in random cats or volunteering me to watch other people's cats and animals convincing her is going to be an up hill battle.

Tell her you feel differently now that you have your own kitten!

I wish you the best of luck then. But if you end up deciding to put him back out at least wait till he can fend for himself because the chances of the mother abandoning the kitten now are sadly VERY high. If she doesn't simply ignore him then she might even go as far as trying to kill him herself simply because of the human scent covering him. I wish this was all just an exaggeration but I've seen and heard of both things happening far more often then I care to admit. There's also the fact that he's sick, kittens that get sick almost always get abandoned by their mothers. However there may still be hope for the kitten to be reunited with the mother, but this relies on the mother cat to be so used to humans that she's almost like a pet. If she's used to humans then she won't notice the smell of humans on the kitten and then all you'll have to worry about is getting him back to health. Doesn't have to be complete health, but enough so that he can fight off the rest on him own and then the mother can take over and finish the healing process...unless of course he was already abandoned when you found him, then you're better off waiting till he can fend for himself.

The kitten needs to stay with this poster for now. The kitten still needs medicine and he is too young to be on his own and find food. The poster hopes his grandmother will let him keep the kitten until the kitten is healthy and a little older. :)

That would be the best outcome. But more than likely the kittens charms and cuteness will eventually win the grandmother over. That's what happened with my grandma when I rescued my first abandoned kitten (and she hates cats)

I'm thinking/hoping if I use a bit of a guilt angle she'll go with it. I do feel bad for doing this to her but I feel this situation is different, he's small, sick and just learned how to eat dry food I think that's a touch different than putting a cat in the house thats full grown because it came up to you and let you pet it. However I don't want to keep it and I do hope we find a home for him. Cats are something I'm very allergic too and after moving in with my grandmother and dealing with the sheer amount of cats there are I am not overly fond of them. I don't hate them but I don't want anymore in the house, garage, or barn, they make it very hard for me to breathe and I swell up very badly when I even get nicked by a claw. However since Louie Rogers is so young and sick I want to make sure he at least gets a good home, not with me he wouldn't have a good home here but with someone else.

Do you take allergy medicine or use an inhaler? Hiw many cats are on your grandmother's property?

I hope you can find this little guy a good home too when he's better. Do you give him wet food? He needs it to grow on.

I have an inhaler and I really can't answer that question since A I lost track and B I also count the 'wild' ones she feeds daily which may not be entirely fair.
