When Rogue does her business, she covers up her stuff with litter but then tries to scoop other things into the box as well! I have found toys, socks, old bills, even my underwear made it in there once. I don't know why she does it. I keep her box pretty clean. How do I discourage her from pulling stuff into her litterbox?

:lol3: Our last cat did that, and several of the young cats at the shelter "store" their toys in the litter boxes. Some of the older ones drag towels to cover up the box. I have no idea how to stop that behavior, but she might outgrow it

My cat did that with her favorite toys when she was 6-8 months old. She grew out of it. It was her safe place to keep the toys. Although a bit unfresh in my opinion..... :)

Hmm.... maybe she knows she smells and she thinks her litter doesn't work well enough? I use a baking soda clumping litter that I can buy for like, six bucks at the grocery store. It also doesn't send up a cloud of dust every time I put a fresh layer down.

I feel like I shouldn't have to spend too much on a kitty litter. I'd rather put that effort into her (and my) food instead. If she doesn't like her kitty litter, I suppose I can put up with finding odd things in her box.

When Wesley was about 14, he suddenly started tearing up newspapers and putting the scraps in the litter box. I tried switching litters and boxes and it made no difference. At the same time, he started chewing on the covers of paperback books although fortunately the books never ended up in the box. Never did figure out what was going on but he lived until he was 19 and kept it up the whole time. Silly boy!

Mine drags rubbish out Of the trash can and pulls it into his litter box when the litter actually needs changed and he's getting frustrated with his own urine smell. I never found a way to discourage it and I honestly don't think I should (as its a pretty clear indicator to me it's time to change it although I usually do it every seven to nine days depending how much he pees - usually more frequent in the summer). This is his way of communicsting with me I guess.

Cats have some weird behaviours and I wouldn't know where to begin in discouraging the behaviour. The cat maybe thinks it's a game and wants you to find them. Perhaps she wants you to clean the toys and this is her way of relaying it to you. Or maybe she's hiding them to encourage you to buy new ones lol.

One thing lately I realise with cats...you can't tell why they do anything. They're an absolute mystery to me.
