I frequently visit my family a few hours away from me. I always take my cat with me and we usually stay the weekend. She does fine in the car, and loves visiting there.

My family recently took in a stray cat they found outside. They aren't sure on their plans to keep it. They had it checked for a microchip and it did not have one. They also had it checked for fiv, which was negative.

Is it possible for me to still take my cat there with me? I know I'll have to carefully introduce them, as my cat too was a stray, so there maybe hostility, or marking of territory.

Assuming it does go okay, and they are fine with each other, is it fine to have the cats with each other for one weekend, and then not for the next weekend?

I'm not sure if the cats will have a strong enough social bond that it could cause stress or behavioral problems if they are with each other 3 days every 2 weeks or so.

Any advice would be great!

Thank you!

Not sure that a weekend is long enough to intro two cats.  I have recommended several weeks to people adding a cat to another.  It does depend on the cat.  Mine is very social & would walk right up to any cat or dog.  She does know when to back off if wanted.

I would suggest taking your kitty but keeping her in your bedroom, of guest room, wherever you usually stay.  Set up her food and litter in there.  If we were introducing a new cat, we wouldn't introduce her right away, there would be a long process.  Unlike dogs, cats are not pack animals, and you don't just take them to another cat's house and expect them to get along.  Introductions are not a good idea at this point.
