Can my kitty wait 16 hours for his vet appointment?

I have a 13-year-old mutt-maine-coon looking kitty. I noticed today that he appears to have something going on in his behind. It looks like the fecal matter is impacted, but I am not a vet. He strained to go to the bathroom (#2 I think?) and then ran his behind on the carpet. I have an appointment scheduled for the vet in 13 hours. He looks healthy (eyes bright and wide, not noticeably lethargic, not any vomiting or howling). Can he wait for his vet appointment or do I need to find an emergency clinic?

This is a hard question to answer as he could be constipated, be impacted (often due to a condition called Megacolon), have a foreign body that he is not able to fully pass, or he could have a urinary blockage.

When was his last successful bowel movement? Is he urinating normal amounts? How is his appetite?

If he is still straining now (3+ hrs after your original post) I suggest finding an emergency clinic.

So what happened with this cat?  Everything work out ok?  Was he impacted or just constipated or what?
