I found a tapeworm in my bathroom - is my kitty sick?

I found a 6 inch tapeworm squirming its way across my bathroom floor. Could it have escaped from the litter box? Does finding it mean my cats are inflicted?

Most likely the tapeworm fell off onto the floor as the cat exited the litter box. You may see tiny rice-like things on the floor or on your cat's butt as well. These are tapeworm segements. I recommened taking all of the cats to a vet for treatment. Follow the directions on the treatment package and the vet's advice to give your cats full treatment, likely at least several doses spread over a period of time. I would not use OTC tapeworm products from the pet store since these often do not work well.
