I've a calico cat named Granola whom I recently gained the trust of and was able to move inside. Around the ides of May, she began  showing signs of pregnancy- this is her first litter, I'm sure because her nipples were very flat and tiny but then got  bigger. I knew that if she was going outside at all, I needed to check for pregnancy. Every day since then, she has gotten bigger and has shown every sign. On the night of the 27th of June, she was very apparently uncomfortable, licking at her crotch like she was stark-raving mad and she had small, very slight "contractions." That's when I noticed her litter had dropped down to the bottom of her stomach. I read in a few places that this was them moving to the "birthing positon." It is the 29th now and around 10:30, I woke up to the sound of her whining and she had hermouth slightly ajar. About 12 noon, she had puked not after five minutes after eating. We've stayed by each other's side through all of this so I just want to know what to expect and when to expect it. As I'm typing this, she's pawing and meowing at me, trying to get my attention so I'm going to cut this now. Is labour imminent? When will I be Babushka? :'D Please, someone, reply soon. Thank you. :)

Oy, you will be babushka very soon! Could be quick; could be a few hours.

Stay with her and keep us posted!

I will do so! She's laying in my bed right now, seemingly relaxed. I think she may want to give birth here since this is where she so adamantly chose to go through the 27th, no matter what I did. Honestly, it's okay if she does. I love her so much I just want her to be happy and safe.

Some basics.  Does she have a nesting box? Could be cardboard w/3 sides and some bedding ile fleece, flannel, old t-shirts. It should be in a dark quiet place like a closet or spare room.  She will want to keep her kittens 'hidden' for the first couple of weeks.  She will need her food, water and litter box nearby because she will not want to leave her kittens alone.

Is your house warm or do you have AC going?  The kittens cannot regulate their body temp for the first 3 weeks.  If you have AC can you close the vents in that room?

You will want to get some Kitten Milk Replacement (KMR) at some point.  Powder is better than premixed, PetAg brand is preferred.  Do not get the Hartz brand..  If you can send someone to walmart or a pet store do it now.  You can feed it to the mom cat and you may need it to supplement kittens.  It will not go to waste as the kittens will eat it poured over dry and wet food as they start to wean.  A needleless syringe 1 -2 ml will also come in handy.

I've a cove made for her and a box made out as you've described in case she changes her mind. She just really wants to stay in my bed which is fine with me. I can sleep somewhere else if I have to. I can get my mum to run to the store as she's coming home from work for the supplements. She's still just relaxing and meowing occasionally, faintly. I'm probably more anxious than she is right now. Haha. Thank you, everyone, so much for the quick replies. I will keep posting as Granola progresses.

She may still move into the box to give birth.  They don't like to go in too early and soil it or attract preditors.  Kittens left on the bed may not be a good idea they could roll or walk off.  So if they stay there put pillows around them to limit movement.

soulnd like it is under control.  I'm just looking ahead.

Oh don't worry. Even if she does give birth on the bed, I'll be moving the kittens to a clean, warm, safe, and dry place such as either the box or cove. Is it normal for her to just be lying here? I think she may just be restng but still... I'm just really not sure what's going on. I worry too much.

She may be in pre-labor, which can take hours.

Are her sides rippling?

Not really but she's breathing faster than normal and heavier too. It's like she's really concentrating on something...

Okay. I think it's pre-labor. We'll know sometime today anyway. My cat was in pre-labor for an entire Saturday and the night and finally gave birth early Sunday morning. So ,,,

Well she's still not progressed any. She's eating as I type this which is a good thing assuming she doesn't throw it up again. You guys weren't kidding when you said this would take 2million forevers. Thank you all, again, for allof the guidance and advice. I hope to be updating soon about her progress.

So she followed me into the dining room and was sitting in a chair and left the cushion pretty damp. She's not acting all too weird but we're in my room now and I've turned the lights off to make her comfortable. I haven't really seen her lick her crotch much today but she's been at her nipples all day. She was just laying on the floor on a blanket but as soon as I looked at her she came up on the bed. Is something about to happen? Also, when is it too late to move her to a more suitable birthing area (like the box or cove I've made for her) since she pretty much wants to stay on my bed. If she ends up giving birth on my bed, it'll be okay as I'll just move the kittens to a box as soon as Granola lets me but ideally I'd want her to give birth somewhere more suitable.

Pretty damp? As in water breaking damp?

Something may be about to happen. It's just hard to know.

Put an old blanket or quilt on your bed if you want. If she loves your bed, and you don't mind, it's pretty much where she's comfortable. Like you said, the family can be moved later. :)

I think Granola may have broken her water (the chair she was in is a lot more wet than what I've seen from her before) but she's still not really seeming like anything is happening. She's eating right now (hasn't thrown up since this morn) and other than that, just relaxing. Her breathing is pretty hard and at time fast. I asssume something is about to happen. I'm going to have to stay up all night... aren't I?-_-

Yeah you'll probably be up all night, but I have a feeling you wouldn't really sleep either way.

Oh no, we'll be having a kitten party. I've been staying up everynight with her since the 27th when she was having her incident. I'm tired but I'm here for her. She's the apple of my eye and I want to be able to protect her and comfort her no matter what. That's why I'm so neurotic. Haha
