My 1 year old 8 lb cat only eats wet food with added water, but the vet said her blood test shows she is more dehydrated than she should be. She gets fed three times a day, a total of 8 oz of wet food, with about 4 oz of added water. I also have a fountain for her to drink from, but she does not seem to like it. Does anyone have experience with cat being dehydrated, even after having them on a wet food only diet? Thank you.

That's weird.  I've not ever heard of that.  I always add about 6-8 tall drink spoonfuls of water to my cats' wet food meals so that it's almost like a liquid diet or thin oatmeal consistency and they are all well hydrated.  Did you get a copy of the labwork and ask the vet which value s/he's looking at that shows the dehydration?

I thought it sounded weird as well. The vet only left a voicemail for me, she is out of town until thursday so then I will have the official numbers from the lab work. We took the cat in to get her blood work done after my boyfriend noticed she was walking a bit strangely. The last cat my boyfriend had died of kidney failure at 15 years old, and he thought my cat was walking the same way his did when they found out about his condition. I thought that my cat would be too young to have any problems like that, and that she was getting extra water from adding it with her food. We have been watching her for the past two days and she seems to be walking normally again, and we've started to add even more water to her food. We are also leaving more water bowls around the house, but she still doesn't seem interested in them.

Hey!

I had a similar issue with my cat after he had a UTI - he was uninterested in water - he liked his fountain for a while but got bored.

Even though he's on wet food only, I wanted to make sure he drank water. My cat loves to be around his humans and I realized he just liked drinking the water from the sink (it's safe to do so here). Once he saw it was okay and he was allowed to do so, he just jumps up and chirps when he wants water. Not sure if you could potentially introduce your cat to the sink and run the water slow (but since I did this my cat loves water and even plays in it). Hope this may help!
