Hi. My cat Sophie has a hot spot on her back that she won't leave alone. It's pink and and raw in an oval shape about 1.25 inches long by 0.75 inches in width. It's been there about a month. (Blurry picture attached.)
She's 6 years old, but this is her first hot spot. But she has before gotten swollen bumps on the edges of her forehead, and has three now. They seem to come and go.
She's a stay-by-my-side cat, but does explore outside about once a day. I give her and my other cat Frontline for flea treatment. She seems fine other than the hot spot -- no change in behavior or temperament.
I've bought a satellite dish type of collar, and some Neosporin, but haven't put it on yet because I know she'll hate it and animals always look so miserable in those things, and because it's been very hot were I am (Oregon), reaching into the high 90s in the last few days. The heat is supposed to stay for at least 10 days out.
Is there an antibiotic cream I could apply to the hot spot that she would not lick off, or that is safe if she does lick it off? Neosporin isn't safe for humans to swallow, and so I doubt it is for cats.
Is there anything I can do? I'd like to avoid a costly vet visit if I can.
Thanks for any help,
David
