Hello, I am in desperate need of figuring out how to save the lives of two kittens that were carelessly abandoned by my house.
About one month ago, my husband found these kittens that were abandoned in a tree in our front yard, so he brought them inside and fed them. They were so tiny and so hungry so we desided to keep them.  I noticed one of them had something wrong with its eyes so I told my husband we had to take them to the vet to get them looked at and made sure they were healthy because we have 4 children and 3 of them are under the age of 5.

We do not have a lot of money, we are a one income family and live on section 8, but we came up with the $70 to have them examined some how. I was not prepared for what the vet was going to te me. They wanted to charge me an additional $300 because these cats had fleas and worms and needed shots and I can not afford any of that.

I found out they are 9 weeks old and are too young for a lot of over the counter treatment but I just couldn't afford the money the vet needed to treat them.

I put the cats in one room so their fleas would not get everywhere in the house and that's where they have been for the last 2 weeks. I got a litter box and clean it and feed them several times a day, but that is where they are staying until I can get help.

The thing is, tge beautiful kitties are sick, I know they have fleas and now the hair is falling off their ears and their starting to bleed. My husband says its from scratching the fkeas, but I read it might be from from ear mights. Not only that, but I was cleaning their poop yestrrday and saw worms in their poop!! I don't know which kitten it was but I CAN NOT have these kittens around my babies in this condition and its so unfair to leave them stuck in that room while I am unable to afford the care they need.

We tried to call a million different places and there is NO ONE that will help us to get these kittens healthy without paying at least $100 each cat and i can not afford that. My husband wants to just get rid of them because they are not safe to be around my children, but i called so many places and there is no where to drop them off where they won't be "euthanized" and I don't want to just open the door and send them back outside after they've been inside for a month.

I am so lost and confused. I tried to do the right thing by rescuing them but I can't afford to get these kittens healthy and I don't want them to go back outside and possibly die or send them to a shelter that will kill them.  I need help! If these cats aren't in need, then I don't know who is.

PLEASE write me back and tell me how you can help me save these kittens lives. Otherwise, I'mggoing to have no other option but to call for some shelter to get them where they will most likely be put to sleep.

They have become party of my family and my kids will be devestated, but I honestly do not know what to do or where to turn :(

There is a website called Modest Needs where you can post your story. It confirms that requests for help are valid so people might be more inclined to donate than they would through gofundme. I really wish you the best. This is a very tough situation and you are trying to do the right thing.

Thank you so so much. I'm so heartbroken because my husband sais if we can't figure out something either way, then we are going to have to get rid of them and I already love them so much and they love each other, so I would really like to keep them with me and keep them together. I really appreciate your tip and I'm going to try that right now

I really hope something works out. $200 is not much to ask for. If I could, I would contribute myself but I just had a lot of vet bills myself.

Have you asked the vet about a payment plan? Or even about post dating a check? My old vet used to do both those things.

The kittens are really cute and it's wonderful you are trying to keep them from being euthanized. My fingers are crossed for you and the kitties.

Meanwhile, you can treat the kittens for fleas by bathing them in some tepid water with Dawn dishwashing soap - the blue one.

Put a towel in the sink so kitten has something non-slip to grab on. Use lukewarm water with a good squirt of Dawn. Water should not be too deep - after all, you aren't teaching the kitten to swim!

Two people may be needed - one to hold the squirming kitten and another to scoop the soapy water over its back and shoulders. Careful with the head - you do not want to get it in his eyes. In fact, before you bathe the kitten just get a little Vaseline on your finger and put some over his closed eyes - this will divert water away when you are bathing him.

Get a fine tooth flea comb and comb the wet kitten to remove stunned fleas. Rinse with clean, non-soapy water until all traces of soap are removed. Bundle in a towel and dry so kitten doesn't become chilled.

Take any bedding in the kittens room and wash in really hot water to kill any flea eggs that may be there. Vacuum room with a couple of mothballs in the vacuum cleaner bag for the same reason, to suck up and kill any flea eggs.

You may have to repeat this if you see new fleas on the kittens but this will really help with the situation.

Worms are really yucky but the chances of transmitting cat parasite worms to people are rather low. Just make sure that you, your children, your husband wash your hands especially after cleaning litter pans and definitely before eating.
