-First off, I feel I should say that some people could find the picture in this post rather disturbing.-

So, we were quite surprised to find 2 kittens in our garage today. The first is a orange tabby, we have yet to catch her and she's currently in our garage (out of the storm at least.) The second is a siamese-looking one, very cute, we were able to catch him and he's currently residing in our master bathroom, after letting him settle down a bit (he acts pretty feral most of the time) we looked him over and found a very weird growth on his neck (pictured below). His whole neck is bald, and we're not sure what caused it. If anyone could help us figure out what the cause of the growth is, that would be great. We were planning to take them to a vet after we caught the orange one, but if whatever the growth happens to be is serious, we will likely take this little guy sooner rather than later. If you need a better picture or any other info, please let me know.

If it were me, I would take the kitten to the vet without waiting to catch the orange kitty. That looks painful and nasty, though I have no idea what it is.

Agreed, vet visit ASAP. If for nothing else but to have the area thoroughly cleaned and get kitty some antibiotics.

Thank you both. We took him to the vet this morning and they removed a large cuterebra parasite from his neck and got us some flea treatment as well as deworm and antibiotics. He has warmed up to people nicely and even tried to climb my pants leg as I walked away from him this morning.

I'm glad things are going well. Had never heard of a cutebra so looked it up - yuck! I'm sure the kitten is feeling much better now!

They have "cute" in their name but there's nothing cute about cuterebra (bot fly) maggots

We've had quite a few threads about cats infested with cuterebra  larva. When you can see them and get the cat to the vet, that's the good outcome. Sometimes they bury inside the body, in the brain or lungs and can only discovered with an expensive MRI and removed through surgery.

I'm glad you got him to the vet and that he's rid of the maggot. Good luck with catching the orange kitty!
