My little gal has been really good about using her litter box until a short time ago.  Now when she wants her own way or is upset, she goes to "use" her box, but instead  wee-wees on the wall.  Luckily, it is mostly done in the bathroom, though she did this also with the box in my closet.  I took her to the vet who said that it's a behavior issue rather than a medical one.  Sasha-Nicole, guilty kitty, is now on Buspirone (1/2 twice a day).  Can you  provide me with some helpful tips?  I have Feliway plugs in both the living room and near her boxes.  I might add she has NOT done this in any other area.

Thank you all.

As I said, the vet told me it was a behavior issue.  I don't know  Sasha-Nicole's history as she was 9 months old when I adopted her at Pet Smart.  I called the "Last Chance" rescue group and the lady said that she didn't know about Sasha's past.

Anyway, I tried the hooded litter box and she wouldn't have anything to do with it.  She'd just sniff at it and would go to her other litter box.  Even when I showed her that there was no "monster" hiding in the box, she still wouldn't go near it.

My girl all of a sudden decided she wouldn't wee where she poo'd and started using one box for each. I have four boxes for two cats as they're so jolly fussy!

Do you have more than one?

We also have this really comprehensive guide that may help.

Hi Mani,

Yes, Sasha-Nicole has two which I clean twice a day.  I will say that she wasn't finishing her breakfast or dinner both of which contained ground up meds for anxiety as the vet prescribed this as Sasha was diagnosed with a behavior issue.  I found a cat food that she likes (Nutro's loaf style),  mix her meds in whatever she's going to eat.  All this is to say is that NO litter box "accidents" have happened in about four days.  Keeping fingers crossed that maybe we've conquered the problem and FINALLY "mom" gets a break.

Ok, now this might sound odd, buuut.

My RB kitty Tootsie suddenly developed a pee issue once, she was spraying in the kitchen. The vet gave her antibiotics in case it was an infection.

Within a year (was it less? I can't be sure. This was 27 years ago), I found mammary tumors on her. It always made me wonder because Tootsie was the kind of cat who would KILL to be "good", so peeing out of spite even if infected just wasn't "her. So when I hear of a female cat suddenly peeing out of character, my blood always goes a little cold. Like I said--just thinking out loud here.

I keep checking Sasha-Nicole for any unusual growths and there have been none that I could detect.  She eats normally and has quite a bit of energy.  She's not been peeing outside since this past Monday (22 June).  Hopefully, this is a good sign.

It does sound as though the vet's diagnosis and treatment is working....

I moved both of Sasha-Nicole's litter boxes into a closet this past weekend after three days of weeing outside her box.  I have heard that cats like their privacy and since one litter box was in the bathroom we "shared", I feel she was acting out this privacy issue.  Three days have passed and NO urination has been happening since the relocation.  Keeping fingers crossed that this might be a solution.
