Hi all! So I have an important question to ask but first let me give a little backstory: about 3 or 4 weeks ago I was at a friends house and they were telling me about how they had a litter of feral kittens around their house. A couple of hours later I was outside and saw a solid grey kitten on the porch and decided that I wanted to catch him. Like the determined person I am around animals, I put food down, snuck up behind him, and put my hand down and grabbed him (this probably should have been done with gloves but oh well[emoji]128517[/emoji]) I didn't have a plan for after I caught him but long story short, he was with me on the car ride home and ever since. It has taken me up until this week to make him want to be around people, and when my other people are here he gets scared... So basically he only likes me. He doesn't even like my mother who lives with me. When I caught him he was about 8-12 weeks old so he has been very time consuming but rewarding for me. After all of this time I really have grown a bond with him and so my question is that if I adopt him out will he easily adjust to his new home or would it be a bad idea to give him away at this age now?

You are soon moving out from your home with mom etc, into your own household?

I think its the perfect occasion for you to take kitty with you, as your own.  Absolutely.  Him a little shy to strangers is nothing peculiar.  I have known several home grown cats who are / were shy...

I suppose you CAN try and adopt out, but you must be sure the new adopter knows she is shy, and is completely OK with it...  And is ready to do the necessary fostering herself.

Leaving a shy cat to a shelter is simply a more complicate way to pts it.  Unless that shelter does specialize on fostering and rehabilitating of shy cats...

I'm still staying in my own home because I'm a minor but the only reason I'm asking if it would work to adopt him to someone is because I have another cat who is pregnant and preparing to give birth any day now. I would love to keep him but at this point I'm not sure if it's the responsible thing to do. i completely agree with you with the shelter I could never bring myself to take him there and it would scare him way too much. I just don't want to rock his world so much because he's actually comfortable now haha! So thank you for your input I just need some guidence right now about what to do with my little man

I see he is quiute a look alike of a Russian Blue.  My shy resident I mentioned, is a RB.   RB are know many of them are somewhat cautious and shy.

So, if you DO find some suitable adopter, suitable in every way - you can probably let him go to this new home.  With hime a good look alike as extra bait.   AND explanation why e is shy and should be allowed to be cautious and a little shy.   :)

Be sure the adopter pays some suitable donation.  Its the easiest way to screen of the weirdos...
