My cat is one years old and is only given dry food. I now know that that can give him kidney problems in the future. So should i completely change his diet to wet only ? Or keep a mix ?

Start feeing half wet food, and see what´s happening, and if you feel good about feeding it. Wet food is better for the cat (no or very low carbohydrates and much more moisture in the food!), so I would go for all wet in the future. Dry food is very practical for us, but not so good for the cat. How bad is dry food? It depends on what kind of dry food. Read the label carefully, and if there´s corn, wheat, starch, potatoes, rice and so on in the beginning of the label I would not feed it. The less carbs the better food for the cat. But all dry food contains carbs (to hold it together).  The risk of diabetes is decreased when the cat eats meat instead of carbs. And cats tends to keep a healthier weight on wet food. If you are worried about the teeth when feeding wet food- dry food does not clean the teeth at all! It rather adds a film of carbs to the teeth. You can give a whole chicken bone/wing once of twice a week (RAW! never cooked!) to help the cat keep the teeth clean.

I saw a big difference in my cat when I ditched all dry food and started all wet. Better fur, happier cat, less stinky poo. I decided to go one step further and feed raw, and my cat has never had better fur and cleaner teeth than now. But I were you- feed wet food- the cat will probably be healthier (and vet bills lower) in the long run.  Start feeding it in tiny portions- the tummy may react to the new food, and work your way up to all wet.

You should give him dry food and the next day wet food.

Also I like to give my cat some raw chicken meat once in a while.

Ideally, a 100% canned food diet is best. You can read http:/www.catinfo.org for reasons why. Many cats don't miss having dry food at all. You can give dry food as an occasional treat if you wanted to.

If affording a 100% canned food diet is difficult (you don't need an expensive brand anyways. Fancy Feast and other similar brands are fine), you could do a part canned and part dry food diet. I would not feed more than 50% dry food and would add extra water to the canned food.

Do a diet change slowly to avoid any upset tummy.
