Hi,

Let me start by saying that we already have a vet appointment scheduled for this afternoon, but I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced this and what it turned out to be with your fur baby.

My cat is an 11 year old, female, tabby, who has recently been showing possible signs of arthritis. She has been limping a lot, but not all of the time. Seems to go away after moving for a little bit.

However, recently (within the last 48 hours or so), she's stopped eating, drinking water, using her litter box, and yowls every time I try to move her or pick her up. Also, over the last day or two, she's started sleeping in our bed, or in the cat bed on the floor (which she never used to use), so it's very "out of character" for her. When she lays down, she almost motionless and doesn't like to be moved at all. She also has pretty bad breath, which she's never had before either.

Any thoughts, comments, past experience would be appreciated. Just worried as to what it may be. Also, anyone who's experienced this, and went to a vet as well, could you pass on any test information that they may have done? Obviously, I would think they would do a blood and urine analysis, but not sure if there's anything else I should ask about.

Thank you!

Your cat definitely has a problem. Any sudden changes like what you describe call for a vet visit. You are doing the right thing to take her in. She may not be showing signs of arthritis, but simply of pain. If the vet does a blood test, it will show any infection, etc. If she is not urinating, I am sure he will examine her to determine if she is blocked. This can be very dangerous in cats. Be sure to post back and let us know what the vet finds.

Sending you lots of wishes that all will be okay since you are taking her early for treatment.

Hi again,

So, we got there and my kitty's breathing was really uneven and she was super dehydrated. They took xrays tobsee if there was any mass in her chest...luckily, none that they can see. However, it appears that before we got her, someone shot her with a bebe gun! She's got the bebe lodged in her shoulder, so that could possibly explained part of the limping.

After that, the gave her fluids and took a full blood panel. We should know the results of the panel later tonight. They close at 6pm and its about 4:45 here now. So it's just a waiting game. They did say that it could be her kidneys or liver and the results will help to rule that out. No urine analysis though...not sure if that's because she's been so dehydrated that there was no urine, or if it's because they suspect something else.

So, now we wait...

Update: kitty had extremely low potassium levels. We are to give her a powder supplement in her food and even give her some chicken broth, turkey or chicken breast, or even baby food (no garlic!) to help get her to eat and gain some weight.

This is terrible someone shot her. Did the vet want to do anything about that injury.
