KitKat is also breathing fast while nursing.
But out of the box she isn't.
She is completely happy and normal. But definitely breathing fast while nursing.

@KitKatKittygirl, can you get a video of it and post it so i can see if it looks similar to polka? My concern with polka is the babies had meconium in their sacs and I'm worried they didn't clean her out well enough. If your cat breathes like polka, I won't worry so hard.

As soon as I clean up dinner, I sure will.
She isn't panting, but it's rapid for sure. She has done it since we got the little ones.
I did call my vet. He said it could just be the that she is warm with all of them.
Nursing might be taking a bit of a toll.
But when they are done she stops breathing as hard. But does still sort of faster.
I'll post a video in about 20 minutes. :)

With everything KitKat went through I was scared for her as well, so I completely understand.

Polka doesn't pant either. Her mouth is closed and she's nose breathing. I guess it's just unsettling to see such rapid breathing. My vet seemed unconcerned but I've went from calm and collected to chronic worrier. I'm glad kitkat is okay too!

I have heard this fast-breathing comment from a handful of new cat mom parents. It seems to improve after the first few days from the comments in the updates, but is happening during nursing. Seems to be related to hormones and the adjustment to nursing. All of the cats are eating really well too.

I do think it's good to get Polka checked tomorrow. She's been through a lot.

Definitely getting her looked at either way but I'll sleep a little better knowing this isn't uncommon and doesn't seem dangerous. Polka just polished off a 13oz can of wet food that I opened at 11 this morning. She'll want more here soon. It's like she's eating for 7! [emoji]128518[/emoji]

LoL, well I guess she is...   And 6 of them are growing rapidly!

I hope she is all fine when you have her checked out at the vets and that the breathing is normal not to do with the infection she has had.

I hope everything is good too. I'm desperate to sit back and absolutely enjoy polka with the kittens.

I just read through all 16 pages in one sitting.  I laughed, worried and cried. And then was so pleased when you were able to find the foster kittens for Polka.  Hopefully it will be calm and uneventful for you from here on out.

Thank you! I almost forgot to watch her breathing. Got lost looking at the kittens. Lol. So cute. Polkas breaths are even a little bit quicker but I'm pretty sure it's pain related. She was just breathing normal and then 5 kittens decided to nurse and she's back to rapid breathing.

Of course she was breathing slower when I go to record her.
But it was really fast Saturday through yesterday.
It still gets quick.
And I freak every time. :)

I'm glad I'm not alone! I had no idea you lost all your kittens too. Sooooo sorry. That hurts so bad.

I read through her thread. I almost couldn't. [emoji]128533[/emoji] I know it seems so crazy to be so sad over kittens I never knew. I keep going outside to make a headstone for our lost kittens and I can't do it. I can't go near where I buried them. I'm on the forum that handsome kitty suggested if anyone wants to head over and chat!
