I have thought about that! her estimated age is 8 though. I think she's ready to retire. If we take in rescues and polka chooses to mother them, I wouldn't stop her but I won't encourage her to do it.

Haha! The rolling pin is a nice touch. I don't know for sure how old she is. Our neighbor across the street estimated her age based on her teeth. They're really bad and I had to pull one. I think the vet will be able to give us a better estimate during a full exam. Considering her uterus ruptured during her c-section, I'm guessing she's carried quite a few litters before to make it that weak.

Yes, she is old to be doing this, but I think her uterus ruptured from complications brought on by delayed labor, which in itself may have been a function of her age. If she is eight, she is like a middle-aged woman having a baby past her prime. They become high-risk pregnancies and are guarded closely.

Well that explains her instant mom discipline skills. LOL I was wondering how she knew to hiss at the kittens to keep them close.

Yep. She's a pro! This is probably the most traumatic delivery of her life and also probably the only litter she can relax and safely enjoy.

How is she this evening? Still eating well? Have you dosed her pain medicine again?

She's doing really well. She got up and used the litterbox and finished off another can of wet food! I haven't heard her lungs rattle at all this evening. I used the stethoscope earlier and there's no wheeze either. Who's ready for another dose of absolute cuteness?!?!

My kitten is sitting with me while I look at your pictures and she thinks the babies are adorable. She keeps reaching her paw out toward them. I am so happy for polka and her adopted babies.

So, polka has left my bedroom to use the litterbox. She refuses to use the one in my room, which I think is normal. How long is it normal for her to stay away from the kittens? She's exploring the house now. Just want to know what's normal and when I should be concerned that maybe she isn't interested like she should be.

She's taking a well-deserved break. The kittens are big enough to be left for a couple of hours honestly. When they start mewing she will likely head back.
