Just when I think she can't get any bigger, she blows up like a balloon! Still no babies but some fur near her nipples has become slightly sticky so I'm thinking she may be starting to lactate??

Sounds like it - and that's a sign she's within days of delivery! :)

As long as she goes to full term, I'm a happy camper. But I'm so excited! she has been demanding my affection 24 hours per day and I can't wait to see her with her babies.

Is aggression a sign of impending labor? Mama kitty, or as I have named her Polka, has been sweet as pie and super affectionate. However, this evening she has started attacking the other 2 cats if they try to walk anywhere near her. I sat down with her and tried to calm her down. She also began biting me, and then seeking attention, and then biting me, and then seeking attention, and then biting some more....... She's a miserable angry mess. It has me worried because she's been so sweet and suddenly a switch just flipped. She even clawed my sons foot as he walked through the living room. Someone mentioned on here that I should look for her stomach to appear smaller as well. Her stomach has changed. It is hanging VERY low but she is drastically thinner when looking at her from above. What does that mean?

Sounds like labor has started or is very near.  She is attacking the other two cats to keep them away from her kittens.  Can you put her w/essentials in a room alone.  Nesting box, litter box, food, water.  She will not want the other cats near her kittens for the first few weeks.  Cats can delay labor if they feel the kittens will not be safe.

I have separated her. She is in my room now with her bed, litter box, food bowl, water bowl, blankets, and her beloved bowl of catnip. I have my daughters video baby monitor watching her right now and she's laying in there looking very sad, staring at the door.

The moms usually like their favorite human with them when they are in labor.  It is painful and scary for them.  Talking to her or reading or singing may help her pass the time.  If she will let you, rubbing her belly will feel good to her.

She is in full-on, protective mama mode. Her kittens have dropped in preparation for birthing, and her hormones are in high gear. She is likely a day or two away from labor, and setting her up in her own space with her nest, food, water, and litter, as Handsome Kitty suggested, is a good idea. Preferably in your bedroom in a closet for privacy, yet near you. And realize that she is still a sweet cat, she is just protecting her unborn kittens, and is letting the other pets know to stay away from her.

She will be fine! She will be with you all night long, and once the kittens come, she will be grateful for the privacy. It's not that you can't let her out; it's more so she feels she has a safe place for birthing. She can certainly join you, but now she knows she has a "special" place to be if she is feeling anxious, which her behavior indicates she was.

Well I've joined her in the bedroom. She seems to want me to sit by her and leave her alone. If I try to touch her, she growls but if I try to move away, she grabs my clothing with her claws. I'm not sure if I'm technically her "favorite" human at the moment. We haven't had her very long and she wasn't exactly keen on being caught but hopefully I'll grow on her like shes grown on me. I do kitten fostering for our local vet. When people surrender their kitten litters to the vet, the vet places the kittens with volunteers until they're weaned from the bottle and ready for adoption. It's exciting and nerve wracking to witness the process leading up to the point when we usually receive kittens.

Bless you for your love and patience that motivates you to care for these very special cat mamas and kittens. Poor gal must be frightened out of her mind with all the changes in her body and in her environment. She's lucky she has YOU! :)

Awwww. Thank you. :-) it's a blessing the other way around as well. I love watching these tiny, frail little kittens survive and grow into porky little lap cats. It's really hard to not keep them all. I am 100% sure I'm keeping polka though. Is it safe for her to be continuously jumping up and down off my bed? She can't get comfy for very long so she's all over the room right now.

She is either in probably in labor and very uncomfortable. This is pretty common, not the jumping up and down, but the constant movement.  I think you might have kittens by morning.  You didn't really want to sleep tonight, did you?

Lol! Sleep? What's that? I have a child with a brain disorder on life support. I don't have a nurse here at night so I'm used to being up. She is leaving little "presents" on my bed. They are very small smears. Is this mucous plug? Sorry for the gross picture. :lol3:

I think that is indeed the mucus plug.  Could still be another day before birth,  all the cats are different

I think she is. She has no interest in the bed in the closet, or the one at the foot of my bed. It's okay. If she wants to have them on my bed, my comforters are bleachable and/or replaceable.

That was her plug. All that moving around is labor. She's uncomfortable. She'll be getting contractions before long. It's almost kitten time! :)
