The vet said he thinks there are 3 but he couldn't be sure because they were so tightly tucked in that he was having issues separating one body from another. I hope they are okay but I'm not counting chickens til they hatch.

Don't blame you, but clearly a small litter, which is for the best. Is Chanel doing okay today?

She is doing SO good. She is already visibly gaining weight. She just loves people so much. She can't get enough of the one on one lovin. She doesn't like to be held or restrained. She likes to wander around me while I'm petting her and she head butts if I get distracted and slow down on petting her. Her stomach is literally twice the size on the left as it is on the right so I'm guessing she does have an uneven amount of kittens. As excited as I am to see her munchkins, I'm hoping she has 3+ weeks to go. Just more time to get her health where it needs to be. As much as I love babies, Chanel's health trumps the kittens right now. We have adopters coming tomorrow for butterscotch and Jackson. I wrote up an adoption contract today and made copies. I have started keeping all receipts for anything cat related. I've also kept notes on everything regarding dates we got the cats, their beginning and current conditions, any vet visits, etc. figured bookkeeping will be necessary. I will post a photo of our contract. Let me know if it sounds good.

Good record keeping is essential to growing your organization. It adds a degree of accountability and gives you validity. All records from acquisition of cats, description of condition, weight, vet visits, what they eat, how often, any medication, birth dates and weights and condition of kittens, weaning dates, all receipts for vet visits, toys, food, otc meds, everything - should be kept. So you're already doing great!

Two babies leaving leaving tomorrow already - wow! Where did the time go! Have to remind myself that they weren't newborns when they arrived.

Chanel sounds like she's got 2 kittens in one horn and one in the other. So glad she's gaining weight. Just the way she craves affection lets me know that she was neglected and that she's really sweet.

I hope she has at least a couple of weeks left too. Longer is better.

I know. It feels too soon to let them go but it isn't. We have 1 kitten here that wouldn't be okay to go tomorrow but these 2 guys are good to go.

I like it as it is, BUT I would add the following:
  1. Obligation of the adopter to have the animal microchipped (if it's not already microchipped and if it is obligatory by law in your country - in Greece it is obligatory).
  2. The contract to be signed in the presence of a "superior official".. That could be a police officer, or even in a police station.. Or some authorised organization..?
The reason for the 2nd is to avoid irresponsible acts of adoption by simply copying this draft of even the final form of the adoption contract, and hold YOU responsible for anything bad that might come up.

Maybe, a space where a stamp and a signature of the authorized organization or the police station this contract will be signed?

It's a very comprehensive and well-written contract.

I think grizzlysapien grizzlysapien is speaking of what, for us, would be a notary. It's an extra step, but it can't hurt.

By what dates are you thinking of putting for spaying and neutering? Private vets prefer to do it by six months. But any lapse by that date puts the cat at risk of sexual maturity.

I also like the micro chip idea, but it's best done during the surgery to de-sex. It is also an extra fee, and in the US, to my knowledge, is not required as rabies shots are. What are your thoughts?

That's pretty cool that microchipping is required in Greece. It isn't required in the U.S. though. I know microchipping a dog is common here but not so much with cats.

For these kittens, their maximum neuter date will be October 14th. That is the date they turn 4months. We will require written proof on the vets letterhead by October 21st, 1 week after the latest allowable date for neuter.

In Greece it is recquired for cats and dogs, both. Any kind of "identity" on any kind of pet, helps in the case of it going missing.. It could be a tattoo in the ear, or a ring around the leg for pet birds.

And yes, the adopter can microchip their animal during neutering.. Although, in Greece we microchip an animal at the soonest, which can be sooner than neutering..

Many missing pets, have been found due microchip or tattooes.. It really helps. It is also useful, when you find an abandoned animal, because you can press charges on the registered owner..

You are missing a word in the line about providing food and shelter.  Or should the word 'no' be 'not'?

You may want to put a reminder date for vaccinations.

It's missing a "t". I will write it in on this copy and fix it when I go back to the library. A schedule of vaccination dates would be good!

IMO, you shouldn't leave out a 3rd witness between the 2 parties on the contract. That's why I suggested a police officer to be present. It is vital not only for your reputation, but for the safety of the animal adopted. An official should be present to cross check IDs..

It would be great if we could do that but we don't have police or anyone in our town really that would be willing to do that. We had someone outside my house one day, claiming he used to live here and that every single plant in the yard belonged to him and he was going to set fire to them if I didn't let him dig them up. Thank goodness he was all bark and no bite because it took the police almost 3 hours to mosy on over here to make sure we were okay. If I asked them to be present for the adoption of these kittens, they'd probably hang up on me.

It would require a notary public, which would mean a trip to a bank for most people and often a fee for the notary stamp.

Well, most of the adoptions here, take place at a police station. The officers aren't always informed, but they go along. We pay a fee which is very little.. like 0,12 cents.. The adoption contract I got for Grizzly has written on it my ID number, the ID number of the "previous owner", that was the girl that found the litter in the 1st place, our names, our addresses, the stamp of the police station and the signature of me, the girl's and the officer's. And we paid 0,12 cents each.

I thought it would be simple for you too, but I guess it isn't.. Maybe a complementary form in which you declare that the adopter showed you their ID and you checked it to be correct and that you proceed with the adoption based on the correct information..? Something like that?

You really have to make sure the kittens and every cat you give up for adoption goes to the right people. And right people give their true names, addresses and info in general. If - God forbid - anything happens, you need to know whom to address to.

True. She can ask for their Drivers License and write down the number and expiration date. That would probably be simplest, and does offer a way to track people down if necessary.

Our pet laws in the US are very lax, grizzlysapien grizzlysapien . It's a shame, and they need to change, but for now, that's the way it is.
