Anyone feed this? I am thinking of feeding both.  The vet tech I talked to says her cat is on the dry and doing fine. I know they should have more water in there diet. But has anyones cat done fine on the dry? My cats are currently eating 2 meals of dry and 2 of wet. It would be easier to get Shy Guy to eat if he can eat with the other cats. Putting him on the other side doesnt always go well.

I had a cat, my oldest male, Whiskers get blocked while he was eating dry Purina Cat Chow. I was given a bag of Hills C/D dry but later returned it for a case of canned c/d food. For me, it was too expensive to feed 3 to 4 cans of the c/d daily. Whiskers is a big boy, around 12 or so pounds. I'd found Dr. Pierson's blog, www.catinfo.org and it has a good deal of information on it. I have been feeding Whiskers for the past 10 months, canned Purina Friskies or Special Kitty canned turkey and giblet cat food mixed with about a tbsp or two of extra water. For him, he has done well on it. If you decide to continue feeding c/d. I do think the canned is best. Cats, especially male cats need water in their food, as its the lack of water that is bad but especially so for males, given their uretha is very narrow.

My cat WAS doing fine on the dry c/d, but at least once a year would have a flair up of the cystitis. He never fully blocked again, but was always sensitive & could be triggered at any time. I switched him over to wet only last October & he's had no issues since. It was the same deal with his mother. So they can get by with the dry, but there is no substitute to eating wet only. I also mix more water into the wet. It was a struggle to get him to switch to wet once he was addicted to the dry (4+ years), so have patience.

He will eat wet most of the time. But I have trouble eating enough so he doesn't lose weight. But not so much he throws it up. I already feed them 4 meals a day. He doesn't always want to eat what he is given and wants what others have instead.

My mother in law's male kitty had a full blockage about 9 months ago. He hated the Rx food so she now feeds Petsmart's Grreat Choice pate and Friskies pate and he hasn't had a reoccurance. I think the extra moisture is the primary factor.

Try feeding everyone large tins (13 oz) of friskies pate with added spring water, then he won't want their food. It is pretty economical.
