Hi everyone,

I first wanted to thank everyone who helped Tommy lose so much weight a few months ago! I appreciate it so much! He's so much more energetic now! It's unbelievable. For those of you who don't know, Tommy weighed almost 20 lbs. just a couple of years ago. Now, he's down to 11.5 lbs! He's a different kitty now.

Tommy just turned 14 on June 1!
He hasn't been to the vet since he was 3 years old. It was so bad we never took him back. He hates car rides. He knows he's going to the vet. We never take him in a car for anything else. The last visit it took about 3 people (the vet and 2 assistants) to corner him and try to hold him down. He bit through the middle of his tongue. There was blood everywhere. REMEMBER: This was over 10 years ago. I'm still getting the shivers writing this. I hated that.

I want to get him back to the vet. NOT THE SAME ONE FOR SURE. Should I take him to the vet? Should I just leave him alone? I mean he's been so long without going. I DEFINITELY do not want to stress my poor kitty out so if you recommend that I take him, I need to know of some medicine that will knock him out very well and I can take him.

I know there are like calming air freshners and some pills you can give a cat but I'm telling you he'd need to overdose x7 if we ever wanted to get him in a car again. I'm kidding. But honestly, we haven't tried these things.

Thanks everyone in advance for your help! You guys rock!

He definitely needs to be seen by a vet.  Of course the best option would be a mobile vet but not all areas have them.  I would call around to vets in the area.  A vet that does work for rescues would be a good choice.  They will be used to kitties that are very afraid of the vet.  I know some vets will give you a mild sedative to give before the visit to make things easier.

Given his age they will probably want to do a full blood panel and they will probably also insist on a rabies vaccination,
