Momma and Tiger Baby

A couple of weeks ago the shelter got a very young, presumably feral mother and her two young male kittens. They were severely undernourished, ridden with parasites, and the babies had eye infections. Momma herself was still a kitten.

At the beginning of last week the little tiger kitten had to be put to sleep. He never really had a chance. The day before yesterday the mother cat went to the vet's for her shots and keeled over dead. A necropsy revealed a severe heart defect. An ill kitten tried her best to fend for herself and two babies she never should have had. Help, when it came, was too late. The remaining kitten is hanging in there, but is extremely undersized.

Rest in peace, little Momma, reunited with your baby. We'll do everything in our power to help your little Kobold reach adulthood in a happy home, and you and Tiger won't be forgotten.

Any news on the surviving kitten? Is he doing well? 

He's eating well and constantly begging to be picked up. He really misses his mom and is lonely in the quarantine section. He's very tiny - under a pound at 9 weeks - but pretty spunky.

It breaks my heart when I see and hear of the suffering these poor babies go through, at least they were helped in the end and knew that there was such a thing as love and gentleness in the world. I'll say a special prayer that they made it safely to the Rainbow Bridge and will be forever safe and warm, RIP dear Mama and Tiger Baby, you were taken much too soon!

Poor little darlings. Momma and Tiger Baby lived long enough to see that Kobold got to a safe place. I hope he has enough spunk to see him through.

Be strong Little Kobold, your mother and brother are watching over you.

Such sad news.  In case I haven't told you before, I really admire you for everything you do.  You are a true blessing to the tiny creatures of the world, and I can't think of being anything much better than that.
