Leo was a tiny kitten perhaps who followed his mother through a half mile of roads an woods and

came running up my front steps the week of Thanksgiving  5 years ago almost.

I loved his courage and wanting a home so we kept him and gave him a great home

along with 2 others that came up as kittens from the woods in other years.

Friday we fed all our cats Peebo , Bro and Leo

and an hour later my husband said Leo is sick

come see him coming from the edge of the yard and woods

he was heavily salivating and heaving and crying

I had no doubt it was a rattlesnake ..bite.

We gathered him up and put him in the car

and he let out a noise I have never heard like a trill

meow..then one more loud cry and he died on the

way to the vet 15 miles from us.

We were just heartbroken and cried out loud in the vet

office and have cried for 6 days..

We buried him here in the pet cemetary where

a dog named snooty , a dog named Buzz

a cat named Lily and a cat named Ms Kitty

are on a wooded scenic hillside at our house

Now Leo is there too.

I have heard this week of so many rattlesnakes in town on carports,

around swimming pools and near animal pens...

Being an older person you think one day it will get easier to handle

the grief but it never does when you love an animal and it dies.

I'm very sorry about your sudden loss of Leo. It must have been a tremendous shock for you to lose him that way and at such a young age. RIP, Leo. :rbheart:

thank you ...it was traumatic..

all I can say is that he did not suffer but an hour or so

and that is better than years of suffering or having cancer.

We just never want to see someone we love whether

a human or a pet in pain..and dying and just not able

to do a thing but say I love you to them,

I know for me God and Jesus Christ his son

gave Leo the strength to walk across the yard

so that we could be with him in his pain and

that he did not die alone..

thank you again so much,

Sheri

you are so right...if a person or pet is dying...nothing is better than someone who loved

them with them as they die..

thanks for writing...

I have heard of 4 more people with rattlesnakes in their yard today

within one hour of us...the extreme heat and lack of water

may be bringing them to houses...and yards..

Thank you again

thank you so much for your kind and compassionate words for myself, Larry

concerning  Leo..

Everywhere on my laptop I had a group of our 3 cats photos

Leo was the subject..Leo and the cats...etc..

He was the one most like me..he loved posing and he loved

the camera, adventures, and each morning..the 3 boy cats

all short haired tabbies..would come in the front door at dawn

and they came in single file...marching in.

Leo was always bringing up the rear of the line

and he was the smallest and youngest and sleepy one

He always..never failed...he would prance in file and then he would kick one leg out

as he walked toward the kitchen still in formation and file...and yawn..

It was so funny...he loved to stretch as much as I do!

I never got a video made of him doing that and wish I had done so

with my camera..

What a cute sight I bet that was!  That's great, just keep remembering those things about him that made you smile.

That is very moving and I hope your heart heals quickly and the pain from the sudden loss hurts a lil less each passing day.

I'm so very sorry for your loss, you did all you could and it hurts to not be enough. The first few months are so very lonely, our hearts are broken and only time heals the wounds. I'll pray for you all, please take care of yourself and your remaining babies, they are hurting too......... RIP sweet Leo!

thank you for your kindness!

The other two are really working us getting things they usually do not get

due to our grief over Leo..

The first photo is of Peebo...

I cut up fresh peaches and cantaloupe for Peebo the big cat who is 9 years old

he loves them fresh...and of course I cut them up and serve him...

when they are in season ..a few times.

and treats for the 8 year old Bro...who is in his chair asleep.

...

What a beauty!  I am so sorry for your loss.  At least you were there & he did not die outside alone.  I read each post on this forum & each makes me cry for my beloved Rizzo.  It is good to share our loss of a loved one.  Take care!  He will meet you on the other side.
