My sweet cat Indy is a very healthy 2 year old male, who has a very healthy appetite. I feed him buffalo blue food and supplement with some greenies dental treats. When we found him as a kitten, he was a stray and has a bit of a scavenger mentality, so he frequently steals bites of your dinner. He also loves ice cream so sometimes we give him some of that. He has always been healthy, but occasionally has a little blood on the outside of his stool, which the vet thinks is when he eats something too rich, like ice cream. She doesn't seem worried at all, but it has always bothered me. Blood in my stool would scare me, so why not in my cat?

Because I've always worried about that, I bought him some greenies digestive care treats and gave him some yesterday, maybe about ten total. Now he's had diarrhea for 24 hours. It is very liquidy and green in color and I am convinced that's what did it. He is otherwise healthy, he plays and eats, but every couple of hours he goes to his box and has a little bout of diarrhea.

Obviously I have stopped giving him the treats, and in fact have not given him any greenies at all since he got sick, but I'm a little nervous. When should I take him to the vet? What should I do? It shows no signs of stopping!!!

The only other thing I can think of is that he stole a little piece of tiramisu off of my husbands plate, and there's coffee liquer in tiramisu so maybe that did it?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

As you are finding out, it's best not to feed cat's human food.  It may or may NOT have been the Greenies.  I'm guessing it wasn't, since he's been eating Greenies treats all along, even though you switched it up and gave him Digestive ones vs Dental.

Just about the only human food that might be good for him would be unseasoned meats (raw or cooked), goats milk, and in this case, yogurt, but NOT if there are NO  artificial sweeteners in it.  Yogurt (with live cultures in it) is actually good for cats with diarrhea because it helps straighten out their gut flora.  It works the same way as a probiotic, but actually feeding a daily probiotic is better, although sometimes when you start doing that, it can also cause diarrhea as the flora starts improving.   I actually give my cats a daily probiotic every day just to keep them in tip top shape.  Everyone in our household takes the same probiotics.

Anyway, if the diarrhea hasn't stopped yet, you can try cooking up a chicken breast with absolutely no seasoning, then boil some white rice in the chicken liquid.  Shired the chicken and mix with the rice and some extra liquid and give to him.  (No bones whatsover)  This is NOT nutritionally complete, but should be ok for a few days.  This is a bland diet that should alleviate the diarrhea.  You can mix probiotics into this mixture if you want, and you can also mix some Slipperty Elm Bark into this as well.  Here's a thread that explains this in more detail:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/253036/help-explosive-poop#post_3291827
