Ever since I woke up this morning I have had a bloody nose
..... I dont know what caused me to have this either. My roomate thinks it's either menopause or sugar diabetes
. And all of the prompt cares (except one and its out of my way) closed up early
. Is there any home remedies out there that you know of that i could try? I've already put some tissue up my nose to stop the bleeding.... Right now, I am holding a facecloth to my nose. Thank
You.

Saline Solution--it'll clean out the blood, stop the bleeding, and moisturize your nose. Try getting more vitamin K into your diet. My Dad is always low in vitamin K and in the winter when it's dry he has lots of nosebleeds. Vaseline also help with moisture once you get the bleeding stopped. Laying down on your back can help too.

The only one I know of off the top of my head is greens (spinach, kale, mustard greens, swiss chard, etc.). I think it's in all dark green veggies, but I'm not sure.

Pinch your nose and hold for at least five minutes. Pressure is the best way to stop bleeding.

Neither diabetes nor menopause causes nosebleeds. Do you have high blood pressure or allergies? Either of these can cause a nosebleed. Being inside, in warm dry air will do it, too.

Okay, it lists spinach, green tea, cabbage, turnip greens, brussels sprouts, alfalfa, soy beans, cheddar cheese, oats, and cauliflower.

So far out in left field I got lost
When I was little I always had very severe nosebleeds that left me weak from the blood loss.

Mom and Dad always would get a wash cloth and wet it using ice water. I would then have to hold it on my nose and mouth area and also would have one on the back of my neck while my Mom or Dad ran cold water over my wrist one at a time.

Pinching the nose does help to stop it and putting pressure on the upper lip right under the nose will help the bleeding to stop also. I know now that mine were due to allergies and also the nose bleeds would trigger cluster migraines headaches. I do hope that you go to the Dr. to be checked out, it is always better to be safe than sorry. Take care of yourself

I had really heavy, frequent nosebleeds, as a child. Mine were due to allergies and, when I was 5, my nose was cauterized. Haven't had a nosebleed since and I've taken some pretty hard whacks on the nose.

Sandra,
Looks like everyone's given you some great advice...actually the same as what I was thinking
. It could be a number of things that are causing the nose bleeds (hypertension is a big one, but it could be as simple as the air being really dry). My suggestion would be to fire up the humidifier (hope you've got one!). I used to get nosebleeds daily when I was a kid & after much research the doctors found that the air was too dry for my nasal passages. Once we started using the humidifier, I never got one again. If you don't have a humidifier, you could boil some water on the stove & try breathing in the steam. That will help temperarily anyway.

Another thought, are you on any kinds of medication? What about aspirin? Aspirin will thin your blood & has been known to cause nose bleeds if taken regularly. I would definitely eat more green leafy veggies & see if that helps too. But only do that if you are not on any medications for thinning your blood (like Coumadin or Warfarin). Those two shouldn't be mixed unless a doctor recommends them because the greens will prevent the med's from working correctly.

For right now, I'd get a cold pack from the freezer & hold that on your nose. It may feel weird & ackward, but it will help stop the bleeding. If this persists, definitely get checked out by a doctor!
Hope this helps you!

Is your house dry? Do you use dry heat like a woodstove or electric heat? Try a humidifier. . . . or try boiling some water on the stove to moisten the air. . . or pouring some boiling water into a mug or bowl and using a towel to hold in the steam, gently (carefully) breath in the vapors to moisten your sinuses. Try saline sprays, or other products for dry noses. This is very common problem in the winter.

Also - if you get blood on your pillow case. . . borax works great (soak in warm water & borax before laundering).

Yes... The air in the apartment is kinda dry. My roomie told a friend of ours who happens to be an R.N. about my nose this morning and she said the same
thing. About the apartment air being dry, so when I get paid next week, I am going to go looking for humidifiers(sp).

Thanks Everyone for your helpful replys
!!.
