Sunday I noticed soft poop in the litter box. I fed them a canned food they hadnt had before saturday night(Purina pro plan true nature wet).  I also started Shy Guy on the Science Diet c/d Thursday.(fish, because thats all they had). I figured it was him eating to much fish. This morning there was a big messy puddle outside the litter box. I gave all the cats probiotic the past 2 nights and gave them pumpkin yesterday afternoon. Not sure if that backfired.

today while brushing Alabaster. I noticed some poop on his fur by his bum. So it must have been him.   I have noticed he also has been seezing. Not sure its all connected. Can cats get colds?

What would you do next? I was thinking of getting some plain chicken to make him. help settle his stomach.  I am trying to figure out the problem before taking him in to the vet. Shy guy is going in tonight to stay over. To see if they can fin out why he is having trouble peeing.  I have been feeding them some different canned foods. Should i back off that and go back to just their dry food?

Has he fasted for a whole day yet?? My cats have diarrhea problems sometimes and I give them only water for 24 hours and then a teaspoon of canned pumpkin to help make the stools firm. I have Harley eating cooked eggs for protein because of her diarrhea and to help her milk come. She's got three kittens of her own and is helping her two sisters take care of their kittens as well (one of them, Poppy, died last week from a snake bite). Let him have only water for a whole 24 hours then give him pumpkin, after that let him eat cooked rice and chicken, if you don't have any of that then eggs work too.

Cats CAN get colds, just like us, although the sneezing could also be alergies.  They can have those just like us too.

That probably wouldn't cause diarrhea though.  It could be from the probiotics.  How much of the probiotics did you give them and what kind.  I read when you first start them, since they work on the gut flora, they might cause issues, but as you continue using them, everything should straighten out

Well yesterday they were fine. today they are back to having soft poop/diarrhea. I am giving them Natural factors double strength acidophilus & bifidus, 10 billion active cells. one each. At this point, im wondering if i should continue giving it to them. Everyone was fine, then shy guy had his UTI, and i started giving everyone more wet food. Im not sure when this all started. Everything is kinda spiraling out of control :(

If you're stressed, they will pick up on that and get stressed themselves.  Naturally you're stressed out about Shy Guy (who wouldn't be), so just that in itself could be contributing to this issue.

Are ALL of them having soft stools now?  It could be too many changes all at once.  The new food, the additional of the probiotic AND the issues with Shy Guy and stress involved with that.  Of course, if you add dry food back into the mix, the soft stools will probably go away because kibble is DRY, and DRY does just that...it dries things up.

So....if you feel like you are spiraling out of control right now, go back to the way things were for now (except with Shy Guy, because he really needs his special food) and maybe make just ONE change at a time.....either add just the probiotics for a little while, then start adding more wet food, (which is the way I would go), or vice versa.

Hang in there

It's just a thought, and don't do anything before discussing with your vet, but a lot of the royal canin foods are classed s/o - not just the urinary. I know their Sensitivity Control pouches are listed as s/o too. It might be that that option would be easier on Shy Guy's digestion whilst still breaking down the crystals. Might be worth finding out.

As mrsgreenjeans says though, it could be a temporary reaction to the probiotics, or just a reaction to suddenly being on an all wet diet. I hope you can find the cause soon :vibes:

Well Im not sure its even Shy Guy who has the soft stools. I know Alabaster has soft stool. And I assume other cats too. As there is more then one pile. The odd thing is its usually done at night. So yesterday I only gave hem canned food at 2pm. Didnt give the one I usually give them at 11pm.  There was some formed stool and some still some soft in the boxes this morning.

My mother cats are doing a lot better, I gave them pumpkin, cooked eggs, and ravioli. They've gained weight and are producing more milk.

Well the past week everyone was doing fine. Until yesterday. back to someone having diarrhea again. I just found a small puddle in the litter box. If my eyes are correct i want to say it was a light brown/grayish. Which concerns me.  I should have taken a picture. I need to see who it is. As there has also been firm stools. So its not everyone.  Has anyone had a cat with liver disease? I am worried maybe its Shy guy. he did lose a pound of weight. His appetite has always been good. But with his vomiting. Otherwise not sure why he lost weight. Now with him being on an all wet diet. Its hard to get him to eat enough so he doesnt lose any more weight.

I have a couple picky cats that dont always eat enough either.  Looks like i will need to stalk the litter box, or move some to one side of the house to pin point who it is.

Do you feed him home cooked meat? Or even milk? If you do, then you should stop it for a while, until his stomach is a bit relaxed

No, nothing new this week either. not sure what could be causing it. i worry its from the cats not eating enough.

I suggest you letting him around an area with lots of greens, cats usually eat plants whenever they have diarrhea. Have you took your cat to the vet, yet?

I have a cat with liver issues.  Diarrhea is NOT a  problem with her.  Vomiting bile is sometimes an issue, plus lack of appetite.

Yes, in your case, you really need to determine WHO is having this problem first, before trying to determine cause
Always something, huh?

Not yet. I cut back on the canned food and gave Alabaster pumpkin. They have been fine since. Then yesterday started seeing small amounts of diarrhea. Im trying to pinpoint which cat and trying to solve it myself. And avoiding unneeded testing. The vet is 45 minutes away and money is tight. Luckily the diarrhea isnt happen multiple times a day.

Thanks, thats one thing is the small eaters don't usually throw up their food, if they havent eaten much the feeding before. if its Alabaster i think he has some stomach issues. he has pooped outside the litter box in the past. I stopped seeing it so i assumed he was going in the box.  He then had the diarrhea outside the box after getting pumpkin.

Ok so its Shy Guy with the diarrhea. He has been eating the Friskies Special diet turkey and giblets.  But i did give him some of the Friskies with gravy  the past couple of days.. I wonder if that could have had an, an upset.  I gave him some Sheba chicken will a little pumpkin.  I will see how they go he has tomorrow.

Poor Shy Guy. He just can't catch a break :( It's possible it was something in the gravy that disagreed with him. I really hope you find the cause soon, and that Shy Guy feels better :vibes:

AND, I've got some bad news for you on that Friskies special diet food.  Did you know it's being discontinued?  So if he likes it and it's working for his UTI issues, AND you can find any anywhere, STOCK UP!

But I agree that it's possibly the other Friskies that caused his issues.  It's got  wheat gluten and soy products, both of which some cats cannot tolerate.

yes ive seen that. I bought everything Walmart had. And asked my son to check the petsmart near him. Course now i dont know if it is the food that is causing problems.

He still has diarrhea tonight. Got lucky tonight and he was in there. when i went downstairs. This time when I picked it up. I noticed hairballs in the poop. He is the one who was throwing them up before. I'm not sure that's good or bad, seeing they are supposed to come out in his stools and not be thrown up correct?  But also fearing a blockage. Dont they have to do xrays to check that out? How much do they usually cost.

Yes, hair is supposed to go out the backend, not the front.  Why would you think there is a blockage?

As to how much an xray costs, you would have to check with the Vets in your area for that.  In my area, the cost varies from Vet to Vet, and varies VASTLY.

Since you stopped feeding the food with gravies, and added in some pumpkin,  has the diarrhea improved yet?
